General Accountabilities The Mechanical Engineering Technologist (Custom Product) works in collaboration with Maglin’s Custom and Production teams and is responsible for taking custom product concepts from the approval stages through to detailed production packages and into the manufacturing process. This role requires strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Custom Product & Estimating Support

- Collaborate with the Custom and Engineering Teams on custom projects to provide engineering support during the estimating process.
- Review custom product concepts, identify dimensions, materials, and technical information required to develop accurate estimates.
- Assist Estimating and CAD Technician in determining how products are designed and manufactured.
- Provide guidance on design requirements to ensure custom products meet Maglin engineering, manufacturing, and quality standards.
- Translate approved concepts into manufacturable designs and detailed engineering documentation packages.
- Establish and manage custom product schedules and priorities in collaboration with the Engineering team.

Engineering Documentation & Quality

- Review and check production drawings prepared by other team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, manufacturability, and compliance with Maglin standards.




- Release completed production drawings to the EM team in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform tasks associated with Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) in accordance with Maglin standards.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and ensure drawing revisions and changes are properly controlled.
- Conduct incoming inspections of custom product when requested by Quality.

Manufacturing & Supplier Support

- Liaise with Production, Purchasing, and suppliers regarding manufacturing processes and requirements.
- Work with suppliers to resolve manufacturing and fabrication issues.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure designs are practical and suitable for fabrication.
- Review supplier feedback and recommend engineering changes when required.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Design, or a related CAD/engineering discipline.
- Proficient understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, forming, Aluminum casting, painting, and other surface treatments.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal (French is an asset).
- Proficiency with SolidWorks.
