Vacancy status
This posting is for an existing vacancy
Carleton Place Ford is building a mobile service operation, and we are looking for the Licensed 310S Technician who will run it.
This is not a shop job with a van attached. You will operate a fully equipped Ford Transit mobile service unit across the Ottawa Valley and greater Ottawa region, working primarily with commercial fleet customers — contractors, service companies, municipalities and business owners who cannot afford to lose a truck to a full day in a shop. Your job is to go to them, assess what they are running, and keep it running.
Let's be direct about what this is not
Every valuable technician asks this question first, so we will answer it up front. This is not changing oil on your back in somebody’s cold driveway.
The mobile unit exists to do real technical work in the field: diagnostics, module programming and software updates, recalls and campaigns, fleet inspections and assessments, and repairs that can be completed properly and safely on site. Work that belongs on a hoist comes back to the shop, where it should be. You will never be asked to do a job badly because you happen to be outside.
What you will do
- Operate a fully equipped Ford Transit mobile service van as your primary work environment
- Perform scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, module updates and reprogramming, and field repairs at customer locations
- Evaluate customer fleets on site and identify safety, maintenance and repair needs before they turn into breakdowns
- Determine what can be properly completed in the field and what needs to come into the shop, and communicate that clearly
- Document findings and present recommendations to customers and to your Service Advisor
- Perform road tests and safety inspections in accordance with applicable standards
- Keep the van, its tooling and its inventory clean, organized, stocked and road-ready
- Represent the dealership professionally on customer property
The autonomy is real A dedicated Service Advisor builds your bookings and manages your daily workflow, so you are not chasing your own work or fielding scheduling calls. Past that, the day is yours to run. For the right technician, this is the closest thing there is to running your own service business — with a dealership’s parts supply, technical resources, warranty backing and established customer base behind you, and none of the overhead, risk or shop politics.
What you bring
- Valid Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician Certificate of Qualification (required for this role)
- Strong diagnostic ability and the confidence to make sound technical decisions independently
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence and a clean driver’s abstract, required for daily operation of a company vehicle
- Comfort working face to face with customers and explaining technical findings in plain language
- Proficiency with diagnostic software, tablets and digital repair documentation
- Ability to operate both manual and automatic transmissions
- Self-directed, organized and dependable, with strong follow-through
- Commercial fleet experience is an asset
- Ford experience and Ford technical training are assets, but not required
- ODP certification is an asset
Why join Carleton Place Ford
- Hourly base plus a monthly incentive, so you share in what the mobile unit produces
- Genuine independence, with a Service Advisor handling your bookings and workflow
- Fully equipped Ford Transit van, provided and maintained for you
- A ground-floor role where you help shape how mobile service operates here
- Full benefits package
- Stable, full-time chance
- Monday to Friday schedule, no weekend work
- Career growth with a family-owned and operated automotive group
