Over the past decade, our division has experienced steady growth in both production output and team size. To support our continued expansion and ensure smooth operational continuity, we are seeking a capable, driven Operations Associate & CAD Designer to work directly alongside our General Manager.

Position Overview

This is a high-visibility, hybrid role combining technical 3D CAD design with operational and administrative responsibilities.

As the Operations Associate & CAD Designer, you will play a central role in our day-to-day manufacturing operations. Initially, you will focus heavily on CAD modeling, generating production drawing packages, and supporting production workflow. Over time, you will progressively assume higher-level administrative, purchasing, quoting, and customer-facing responsibilities, serving as a key operational pillar for the division.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical & CAD Design (Core Focus)

- 3D Modeling and 2D Drafting: Create and refine detailed 3D models and complete 2D drawing packages for product concepts and custom metal fabrications using Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks, or legacy Autodesk Inventor.
- CAM & Nesting: Generate NC code using nesting software (SigmaNest) to drive CNC lasers, plasma cutters, press brakes, and plate/sheet rolls.
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Ensure design files are optimized for shop-floor production efficiency and accuracy.

2. Production Coordination & Operations

- Work Order Prioritization: Collaborate closely with the Production Manager to schedule, prioritize, and monitor job orders through the shop.
- Purchasing: Source and procure raw materials, hardware, and shop supplies required for active and upcoming jobs.
- Logistics & Shipping: Coordinate outbound shipments, prepare shipping documentation,



and ensure timely delivery to clients.

3. Commercial & Client Communication

- Estimating & Quoting: Evaluate customer inquiries, blueprints, and specs to prepare accurate labour and material cost estimates/quotes.
- Client & Vendor Interaction: Serve as a clear, professional point of contact for customers regarding order status, technical details, and project updates.
- Billing Administration: Assist with invoice preparation and post-job administrative review.

Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills:

- 3D CAD Proficiency: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience in 3D solid modeling using Autodesk Fusion, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
- Metal Fabrication Knowledge: Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, flat pattern development, press brake bend allowances, welding, and CNC cutting (laser/plasma).
- Nesting/CAM Software: Experience with CNC nesting software (e.g., SigmaNest or similar CAM/Nesting platforms) is strongly preferred.

Soft Skills & Operational Background:

- Strong Organizational Skills: Ability to multi-task, prioritize shifting deadlines, and keep job documentation organized in a fast-paced workplace.
- Effective Communication Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with shop crews, vendors, management, and clients.
- Problem-Solving & Initiative: A proactive mindset with an eagerness to learn all facets of running a custom manufacturing division.

Compensation & Benefits

- Strong Base Salary: $55,000 - $70,000 annually, depending on relevant CAD, CAM, and sheet metal fabrication experience.
