Functions as a member of the support team under the direction of the Manager of Building Services and Information Technology. Works with all staff members to support their duties as required. Works closely with external service and support contractors as related to the maintenance and safety of the Organization.

Duties

• Assists in ensuring the safety of patients, residents, visitors and staff through the appropriate checks and inspections of the building and grounds, environmental systems such as the HVAC, electrical, medical gas supply, natural gas equipment, fire detection and suppression systems.

- Follows polices to ensure safe and effective operation of the physical plant and grounds including adherence to all operational and legislative codes.
- Ensures preventative and predictive maintenance is performed on a continual basis. Contact support contractors and suppliers to assist with trouble shooting and repair. Recommends the purchase of support services and equipment to the Manager.
- Assists in maintaining an appropriate inventory of replacement parts and supplies to ensure continued service and availability of parts for repairs and maintenance. Maintains a complete log of all repairs and maintenance of equipment including work performed by contractors.
- Assist in tagging and maintaining inventory of corporate assets.
- Assists with overseeing and directing external contractors.
- Familiar with and observes general and departmental specific safety procedures.
- Performs general repair and maintenance functions relating but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting and equipment.
- Prioritizes all work orders received so that those which are safety related or affect direct patient/resident care are given first priority.
- Available to respond to emergency calls outside scheduled hours as required.
- Attends in-services, continuing education programs, certification upgrade courses, staff meetings and committee meetings as required.
- Assists in planning and implementation of internal renovations and upgrades to the building, plant, and grounds.

Qualifications Education • High school Diploma or equivalent Experience • Small renovation projects such as framing (wood & metal), drywall, painting, and plumbing • Maintenance experience in an acute care hospital. Abilities • Extensive knowledge and experience with the operation of commercial/institutional buildings and the support equipment such as HVAC systems, electrical, hot water and steam boilers, refrigeration equipment, standby generators and control systems.
