Position Overview:

The Nipigon District Family Health Team (NDFHT) is looking for a forward-thinking Physiotherapist to join our primary care team and help us develop a new model of first-contact physiotherapy in Northwestern Ontario.

As a first point of contact within primary care, you’ll provide assessment, treatment and clinical decision-making with a high degree of autonomy, while working closely with physicians and the interdisciplinary team.

You’ll be helping us build something new and play a key role in developing a new local healthcare delivery model that will contribute to research on improving access to primary care in rural and northern communities.

Why you’ll love this chance:

Autonomy: Practice to your full potential and have a voice in shaping your role.

Innovation: Help create a new approach to delivering primary care.

Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, an interdisciplinary team and with the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital’s rehabilitation department.

Professional Growth: Develop an expanded role and scope of practice through collaboration, medical directives and a new model of care.

Research: Contribute to an initiative that could influence the future of primary care in Northwestern Ontario.

Lifestyle: Live in the North with a lower cost of living, short commutes, fresh air and incredible nature right outside your door, or live in Thunder Bay and commute daily.

Wellness: Join a team that genuinely values staff wellness, with a generous vacation package, an additional week off over the Christmas holidays, birthdays off and flexibility built into scheduling.

Stability: Enjoy the security of a HOOPP pension and employer paid extended health benefits.

Qualifications:

- A registered Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Independent, curious,

collaborative and excited about doing things differently.
- Primary care experience is an asset, but a willingness to innovate is what matters most.
- Valid drivers license and satisfactory OPP Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Applicants requiring supervision are welcome to apply. Supervision and mentorship will be available to support you in developing the skills and experience needed to achieve full independent practice.

Benefits of Working at the Nipigon District Family Health Team:

- Employer-paid health and dental benefits
- HOOPP pension plan participation
- Competitive vacation and paid time-off benefits
- Flexible scheduling to support work-life balance
- Supportive, collaborative team environment

Please forward your cover letter & resume to Melissa Harvey, MScPT, Executive Director of the NDFHT, at [email protected] no later than 4 PM on September 28, 2026. While we thank all applicants, only those under consideration will be contacted for an interview.
