Role Description This is a full-time, on-site PLC Programmer / Senior Controls role based in Chatham, ON. The position is responsible for designing, programming, and commissioning PLC and HMI/SCADA systems for automated equipment and manufacturing lines. Day-to-day tasks include developing control logic and sequences, creating and debugging PLC code, configuring networks and industrial communication protocols, and integrating hardware such as sensors, drives, and robots.
The role also involves preparing documentation, such as electrical schematics, I/O lists, and operator manuals, as well as performing system testing, troubleshooting, and optimization during build, installation, and start-up.
The PLC Programmer / Senior Controls professional collaborates closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, project managers, and customers to ensure solutions meet safety standards, performance requirements, and project timelines.
Qualifications
- Strong PLC programming skills (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms) and experience developing ladder logic, function block, and structured text programs.
- Proficiency with HMI/SCADA configuration and integration, including creating operator interfaces, alarms, trending, and data logging.
- Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols (such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, DeviceNet) and experience with I/O configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with electrical controls design, reading and interpreting schematics, and working with control panels, sensors, actuators, and variable frequency drives.
- Ability to perform system testing, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting of automated equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Relevant education in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Solid problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and interacting with customers.
- Willingness to occasionally travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, and service support.
