Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Production & Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day manufacturing operations of two chemical production facilities located in Red Deer and Lacombe County, Alberta. Based in Red Deer, the Production & Operations Manager will be responsible for production planning and execution, raw material and finished goods inventory, purchasing, logistics, production documentation, quality processes, and continuous improvement across both facilities. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO and Calgary head office to ensure production requirements are met safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively while maintaining accurate inventory and operational records.

The position currently has one direct report, the Logistics Coordinator, and will work closely with the Calgary head office and other company functions.

Production & Manufacturing Operations

· Oversee daily production activities at the Red Deer and Lacombe County manufacturing facilities.

· Develop and coordinate production schedules based on customer requirements, inventory levels, raw material availability, and production capacity.

· Ensure production targets and customer delivery requirements are met.

· Issue and process production tickets and ensure all production documentation is complete and accurate.

· Monitor production performance, productivity, downtime, and operating costs.

· Identify production issues and implement corrective actions.

· Ensure manufacturing processes are followed consistently and efficiently.

· Coordinate staffing and production priorities between the two facilities as required.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, reduce waste, and control manufacturing costs.

Raw Material & Finished Goods Inventory

· Manage inventory of raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-process, and finished goods across both facilities.

· Monitor inventory levels and determine purchasing requirements.

· Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.

· Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.

· Establish and maintain effective inventory control procedures.

· Lead the annual physical inventory count, including planning, coordination, counting, reconciliation, and investigation of variances.

· Work closely with the accounting team to ensure inventory records are accurate and properly reflected in the financial records.

Purchasing & Procurement





· Order raw materials and production supplies based on production requirements and inventory levels.

· Issue and manage purchase orders.

· Coordinate with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, quality, and delivery schedules.

· Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply or delivery issues.

· Identify opportunities to improve purchasing terms, costs, and supply reliability.

Transportation & Logistics

· Arrange transportation for raw materials, finished goods, and other production-related shipments.

· Coordinate with suppliers, carriers, customers, and the Calgary head office to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.

· Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

· Ensure appropriate shipping and receiving documentation is maintained.

Formulation, Batch & Quality Control

· Maintain and oversee BOMs, formulas, recipes, and production specifications within the ERP system.

· Ensure production follows approved formulas, specifications, and batch requirements.

· Review batch records and investigate production variances or quality issues.

· Work with management and quality personnel to address customer or production-related quality concerns.

· Ensure proper documentation and traceability of raw materials and finished products.

ERP & Systems

· Maintain accurate production, inventory, purchasing, and shipping information within the company’s ERP system.

· Ensure BOMs, inventory units of measure, production records, and other relevant master data are accurate.

· Identify system or process issues and work with the appropriate team to resolve them.

· Support improvements to the company’s ERP, inventory management, and production reporting systems.

Health, Safety & Compliance

· Promote a strong safety culture across both manufacturing facilities.

· Ensure employees follow applicable company safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

· Ensure compliance with applicable requirements relating to WHMIS, TDG, chemical handling, and workplace health and safety.

· Identify and address operational safety risks.

Reporting & Management

· Provide regular reporting to the CEO on production volumes and performance, raw material and finished goods inventory,



purchasing requirements, production capacity and constraints, shipping and logistics, operational issues, and improvement opportunities.

· Work closely with the Calgary head office, accounting, sales, and other departments to coordinate operational requirements.

· Provide input into production budgets, operational planning, and cost-control initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

· 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, production, or operations management.

· Experience in chemical manufacturing or a related industrial manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

· Post-secondary education in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred.

· Equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience will be considered.

· Demonstrated experience managing production and inventory operations.

· Experience with raw material purchasing, procurement, and supplier management.

· Experience with transportation and logistics coordination.

· Experience leading physical inventory counts and investigating inventory variances.

· Experience with BOMs, formulas, batch production, or similar manufacturing processes.

· Experience with an ERP or manufacturing management system; Acumatica, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar experience would be an asset.

· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

· Knowledge of WHMIS, TDG, and occupational health and safety requirements.

· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between the two facilities as required.

Pay: $90,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
