Orbital Technologies

Vancouver

Company DescriptionOrbital Technologies has been delivering software development services to leading technology organizations for more than 20 years. We work closely with our clients to solve complex software challenges through strong technical expertise, practical delivery, and close collaboration.

Our teams contribute to large-scale software products and platforms while working directly with client stakeholders, developers, product teams, and other technology professionals.

Role DescriptionOrbital Technologies is looking for a QA Analyst to join one of our client-facing software delivery teams in the Metro Vancouver area.

This is a full-time, hybrid role suited to someone with practical professional experience in software quality assurance who has a strong foundation in manual and frontend testing and is comfortable independently owning day-to-day testing activities.

The role is highly hands-on. You will be responsible for understanding requirements, developing effective test cases and testing strategies, executing functional and regression testing, identifying defects and edge cases, and helping ensure that the software works as expected from the end user's perspective.

A key part of the role is acting as a voice of the user — looking beyond whether a feature technically works and considering how it behaves in real-world usage.

You will work closely with developers, product and project stakeholders, and other QA professionals. Because the team operates in a hybrid and distributed environment, clear and direct communication is important. You should be comfortable raising concerns, escalating issues when appropriate, taking direction, and proactively identifying areas that require attention.

This is primarily a hands-on QA position rather than a leadership role. We are looking for someone who enjoys testing software, investigating issues, and contributing directly to delivery.

Responsibilities

- Review requirements,

user stories, and acceptance criteria to understand expected application behaviour.
- Design, document, maintain, and execute clear and repeatable test cases and test scenarios.
- Develop appropriate testing approaches and strategies based on the scope and risk of a feature.
- Perform manual, functional, frontend, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing.
- Validate software from both a technical and end-user perspective.
- Identify defects, inconsistencies, edge cases, and gaps in requirements or expected behaviour.
- Clearly document defects and provide developers with the information needed to reproduce and investigate issues.
- Communicate blockers, risks, and quality concerns clearly and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with developers, product stakeholders, project teams, and other QA team members.
- Execute and monitor existing automated test suites where applicable.
- Perform basic database or data validation as required during testing.
- Use Jira and related dashboards to track work, defects, and testing progress.
- Participate in discussions throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements through testing and release.
- Identify opportunities to improve testing practices or QA processes when appropriate.

Qualifications
- Skilled experience working in software QA or software testing, with the ability to independently handle day-to-day testing responsibilities.
- Strong experience with manual testing, particularly web or frontend applications.

- Demonstrated ability to create effective test cases, test scenarios, and testing strategies.
- Robust analytical skills with the ability to identify edge cases, unexpected behaviour, and potential risks.
- Good understanding of software development and testing lifecycles.
- Experience using Jira or similar issue and defect tracking tools.
- Familiarity with test management tools and executing structured test suites.
- Exposure to automated testing and the ability to execute and interpret existing automated tests.
- Basic experience with databases, SQL, or data validation is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and a user-focused mindset.
- Clear, direct, and professional communication skills.
- Ability to take direction while also working proactively and independently.
- Good judgment around when to raise or escalate risks, blockers, or quality concerns.
- Ability to work effectively with distributed teams and participate regularly in online meetings and collaborative discussions.
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

Nice to Have
- Experience identifying opportunities to improve QA processes or testing practices.
- Exposure to API testing, database testing, or test automation.

What We're Looking ForThe ideal candidate is a hands-on tester and problem solver who is curious about how software works and how people actually use it.

You should be comfortable digging into features, asking questions when something does not look right, communicating concerns directly, and taking ownership of your testing activities.

- We value people who are thorough, practical, proactive, and interested in continuing to develop their QA expertise while contributing to a collaborative software delivery team.
