About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager of the Neurology and Spinal Cord Injury department within the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services Department, the Recreation Therapist is a member of the collaborative health care team, providing support to patients, families and inter-skilled team members through therapeutic intervention to support holistic functioning of patients. The Recreation Therapist provides assessment, intervention plan development, evidence-informed interventions and evaluation of recreation therapy services. Interventions are provided to groups or individuals in an acute inpatient setting, related to the patient's overall plan of care. The Recreation Therapist is responsible to oversee the delivery of the overall recreation therapy service for a program or team.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

- Bachelor of Recreation specializing in Therapeutic Recreation
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience preferred
- Current BCLS certification
- Knowledge and experience with Psychosocial Rehabilitation Principles
- Experience in working with various populations/disability groups preferred
- Knowledge of leisure/recreation assessments
- Knowledge of leisure education and leisure counseling processes
- Knowledge of various health conditions and their impact on health and well being
- Effective counseling and verbal/written communication skills




- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work independently
- Demonstrated ability to establish and promote good interpersonal relationships
- Demonstrated ability to select suitable activities
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

- Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
- Approximately 12 months

Compensation and Benefits

$35.83 - $47.53 hourly Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
