Short Description Access Alliance Multicultural Health and Community Services (AAMHCS) is a Community Health Centre that aims to provide services and addresses system inequities to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and their communities. The Centre envisions a future in which Toronto’s diverse communities achieve health with dignity.
The Research Coordinator provides leadership in the program by supporting the Centre’s research activities and is responsible for coordinating a wide range of community-based research activities. The position has a significant operations and project management focus and functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team working with staff, program participants and the broader community to address the health and well-being of immigrants, refugees and racialized groups.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with project coordination and monitoring experience, eager to work with us to achieve this strategic priority at Access Alliance as part of our Organizational Knowledge & Learning Team.
Detailed Description
Responsibilities:
Research, Advocacy and Social Action:
- Initiate, carry out, participate in or monitor research on health needs, mobilizing and involving the community of interest around the research. Develop and participate in partnerships with health, educational and community institutions for effective social action to address the broad determinants of health.
- Play a supportive role in knowledge mobilization, social action and advocacy at the agency, working closely with key stakeholders as required.
Evaluation:
- Work with management and staff to review and improve evaluation systems and the application of evaluation results in program planning, and to support the organization to achieve strategic and program goals more effectively.
- Working closely with management to initiate, carry out, participate in or monitor the evaluation activities of the Centre’s programs and projects.
Project Management/ Supervision of Staff:
- Develop Community-Based research and evaluation projects in conjunction with other staff that are responsive to needs, and in accordance with the strategic directions of the Centre.
- Generate a process of stakeholder ownership, including community agencies, clients/ participants and community members, in the planning, delivery and evaluation of projects.
- Implement projects by contributing to financial reporting and budgetary preparation, ensuring effective delivery of project activities and taking responsibility for the direct supervision of relevant staff, including assignment of work and performance management, up to but not including any disciplinary actions.
- Evaluate programs to ensure that objectives are met and make changes to the day-to-day running of the projects based on community input.
- Take responsibilities as part of a hiring committee, at the discretion of and in consultation with management.
Administration:
- Manage all aspects of program administration, including records management,
- Correspondence, partnership development, setting up meetings, handling all logistics, and generally being the point person for all day-to-day activities.
- Participate in Centre and Board committees, work groups, projects, and chair.
- Identify the need for or participate in the development of policies and protocols.
- Submit program statistics and reports on a timely basis.
- Carry out other duties as might be assigned from time to time.
Skills And Qualifications:
Required
- Graduate degree in Health Sciences, Social Work, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and work experience;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Community-Based research and evaluation, preferably in a community health setting;
- Experience managing project budgets;
- Excellent project management skills;
Preferred:
- Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods;
- Thorough understanding of health promotion and community development principles;
- Demonstrated success in research proposal writing, interagency networking, partnership building and policy development;
- Commitment to working with low-income, multi-lingual and multi-racial communities;
- Excellent time management and planning skills;
- Demonstrated computer literacy in SPSS and NVivo and keyboarding skills;
- Demonstrated flexibility and responsiveness to community needs;
Asset:
- Essential knowledge of arts-based methods will be an asset
- Understanding of Knowledge Translation principles and strategies; some experience carrying out Knowledge Translation activities is an asset
- Experience supervising/ mentoring staff, students or volunteers;
- Ability to speak and write fluently in a language of one of the priority groups of the organization;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with colleagues and community members;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with individuals and groups;
- Excellent problem-solving skills
Salary: $67,543 - $81,467 per annum
Hours: 35 hours, Full-time
