About Us

J. Tomaz Contracting Inc. is a framing and carpentry contractor working across the GTA. We work for insurance restoration general contractors, custom home builders, and commercial construction managers. Our work covers fire and water restoration rebuilds, full-scope custom home framing, downtown Toronto commercial restoration, subdivision framing, and small structural repairs.

We are hiring an experienced restoration carpenter for our field crews.

The Work

Primarily insurance restoration, with new construction framing filling in around it. Most of it is on damaged or partially demolished structures — tying new framing into existing, matching original construction, and working out how the building was originally put together. You need to be able to work off drawings and figure things out on site.

Insurance restoration / remove and replace

- Removal and replacement of fire-, water-, and impact-damaged framing, sheathing, decking, and structural members
- Rebuilding to pre-loss condition, matching existing methods, materials, and dimensions
- Working off the scope and drawings provided for each job
- Reporting hidden or additional damage to your supervisor as it's uncovered
- Keeping the work area clean, safe, and protected on occupied and active sites

Full rebuilds and new construction framing

- Complete rebuilds of fire-loss structures from the foundation up
- Full framing scope on custom homes — floor systems, load-bearing and partition walls, engineered beams and posts, stairs, stick and truss roof framing, sheathing
- Layout from architectural and structural drawings
- Subdivision and production residential framing

Commercial wood framing and rough carpentry

- Commercial and mixed-use wood framing,

including downtown Toronto restoration projects
- Interior partitions, bulkheads, backing and blocking, furring, rough openings
- Rough carpentry and substrate work for finishing trades

Small structural work

- Beam and post installation, temporary shoring, load transfers
- Floor and joist repairs, sistering, reinforcement
- Structural repairs under engineered direction

Light demolition

- Selective demolition of damaged framing and finishes ahead of rebuild, protecting surrounding structure

Requirements
- 3–10 years of framing, rough carpentry, or restoration carpentry experience
- Able to read and work from architectural and structural drawings with minimal supervision
- Working English — you'll be reading drawings, taking direction on site, and working alongside other trades
- Solid knowledge of residential and commercial wood framing and the Ontario Building Code as it applies to framing
- Solid layout and math — able to lay out a wall, cut a rafter, and set a beam without being walked through it
- Competent with standard framing tools and equipment (preferably has own tools)
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation; our sites are spread across the GTA
- Working at Heights and WHMIS certification, or willing to obtain immediately on hire
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Physically able to handle framing work — lifting, climbing,

working at heights and in varying site conditions
- Reliable and on time for a 7:00 a.m. start

Assets:

- Previous experience on insurance restoration projects
- High-end or large custom home experience
- Commercial experience, including downtown site conditions, hoisting, and restricted access
- First Aid/CPR, forklift, scissor lift or boom lift certification
- Experience leading a small crew or running a job independently
- Own hand tools and basic power tools

What We Offer
- $25.00–$50.00 per hour, based on experience — we pay for skill and are flexible for the right person
- Consistent year-round work. Insurance restoration doesn't slow down in the winter and our crews aren't laid off seasonally.
- Varied work — downtown commercial restorations, custom homes, full fire rebuilds, and structural work
- Steady hours, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday
- A clear path to lead hand. We promote from within — if you can run work and manage a small crew, the role and the pay are there.
- Direct access to ownership and management
