Household Hazardous Waste Operator Public Works - Waste Management Status: 1 Regular Full Time Position Reporting to the Team Lead, Household Hazardous Waste, you will co-ordinate the receiving, categorizing, storing and shipping of Hazardous Waste in accordance with Regional policies and Provincial regulations. The safe handling and storage of household hazardous waste to minimize detrimental effects on people and environment. Test and identify household hazardous waste.

Understand the chemical properties and incompatibilities of waste. Educate the public by answering all questions pertaining to household hazardous waste and other waste management programs and initiatives. Maintain an accurate accounting system of waste collection activitiesto ensure compliance with the Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs), Certificates of Approval (C of As) and ministry of Environment (MOE) regulations.

Act as a mentor with our Summer Student and Coop program. Successful completion of a degree/diploma in Chemistry, Environmental or related field combined with a minimum of one (1) year experience handling hazardous material. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, WHMIS and Regulation 347 of the Environmental Protection Act.

Solid computer skills with proficiency in Excel. Strong analytical skills and laboratory experience to test and identify chemical waste. Interpersonal skills andstrong customer service focus.
