The SAP S/4HANA Upgrade Project Manager will lead the planning and execution of an upgrade from an existing SAP S/4HANA version to the latest release (2025 target). The role is responsible for ensuring delivery within timeline, scope, and compliance requirements while maintaining governance and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Governance
- Develop and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations aligned with global program milestones
- Establish and maintain RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies)
- Ensure compliance with SAP Activate methodology and internal governance frameworks
Execution & Delivery
- Oversee all phases of the upgrade lifecycle:
- Preparation
- Sandbox testing
- Development
- QA
- Production cutover
- Coordinate integrated testing including validation, regression, and performance testing
- Manage change control processes and ensure business continuity during and after upgrade
Stakeholder Management
- Act as primary liaison between IT, business process owners, SAP consultants, BASIS teams, and external vendors
- Provide regular status updates and executive reporting to senior leadership
Risk & Compliance
- Identify and mitigate project risks proactively
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, especially within pharma/life sciences environments
Business Readiness
- Drive change management, training, and documentation readiness
- Support user adoption and post-upgrade stabilization
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of SAP Project Management experience
- Proven experience leading SAP S/4HANA upgrade projects (2020/2021 to 2023 or later)
- Experience in highly regulated environments such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences
Skills
- Robust knowledge of SAP Activate methodology
- Expertise in Supply Chain and Manufacturing workstreams
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience with multi-vendor coordination and global project governance
- Integration experience
Certifications
- PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent
- SAP certifications preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with complex integrations and custom code remediation
- Understanding of SAP system architecture and BASIS activities
- Ability to lead large-scale testing and cutover activities
