Your Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Property Accounting, you will own full-cycle accounting for a dedicated portfolio of multi-family properties and the related corporate entities. Working closely with property operations, asset management, and the wider finance team, you will help scale the accounting function as our portfolio continues to grow — bringing accuracy, curiosity, and initiative to a fast-paced environment where your work directly informs decisions at the executive level.

This role suits an accountant who enjoys both the technical detail of the month-end close and the opportunity to improve how the work gets done.

What You Will Do

Financial reporting and month-end close

- Own full-cycle property accounting for a dedicated portfolio of properties and the consolidated corporate entities.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and management reporting packages, including variance analysis and commentary.
- Complete month-end close entries, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all transactions, subledgers, and corporate workbooks.
- Post recurring monthly entries covering mortgages, prepayments, property taxes, expense accruals, deferred financing costs, and related-party transactions.
- Support the oversight and integrity of the general ledger across the group of companies and the property portfolio.

Transactions and reconciliations

- Record asset acquisition, mortgage, refinancing, and property disposition entries.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts and credit cards, and resolve outstanding items on a timely basis.
- Prepare and reconcile construction draw requests in coordination with the development team.

- Maintain accounts receivable, including intercompany transactions and the accurate recording of tenant activity.
- Support accounts payable with property-related payables, invoice coding, and vendor queries.

Budgeting, audit, and compliance

- Contribute to the annual budgeting and reforecasting cycle, including preparation, review, and system uploads.
- Prepare audit working papers, respond to auditor inquiries, and assist with year-end financial statement support.
- Prepare and file HST returns and remittances for all corporate entities within CRA deadlines.

Systems and continuous improvement

- Develop a thorough understanding of invoice types, coding structures, and approval workflows.
- Support the implementation of new accounting standards, policies, and process improvements.
- Partner with the Manager, Property Accounting on special projects, system enhancements, and other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, real estate, or a related field.

- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and accounting systems.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to raise questions early.

Considered an asset

- CPA designation, or active enrolment in the CPA program (midway through or nearing completion).
- Experience with Yardi or a comparable property management and accounting platform.
- Exposure to IFRS reporting, limited partnership structures, or investment fund accounting.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, refinancing's, or development projects.

How We Define Success
