Job Title: Senior Data Platform Developer

Location: 100% Remote, Canada

Job Type: T4 Contract

Experience: 7+ Years

Rate: CAD 70 to 80 per hour

Role Summary

We are hiring for a Senior Data Platform Developer to join a high-impact engineering team focused on building scalable, event-driven backend systems. The selected candidate will work on distributed services, real-time data streaming platforms, and cloud-native applications, contributing from day one in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

Build and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Node.js

Design and implement event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.

Develop and support cloud-native applications on AWS.

Work with distributed systems that require high availability, resiliency, and scalability.

Design and optimize data streaming pipelines and asynchronous message processing workflows.

Implement reliable messaging patterns, including idempotency, retry mechanisms, and eventual consistency.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver production-ready solutions.

Contribute quickly to ongoing projects and become productive within the first one to two weeks.

Support system performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.

Participate in code reviews and engineering best practices.

Must-Have Skills

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

7 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience.

Strong backend development experience using Java with Spring Boot, Node.js, and TypeScript with modern service frameworks.





Hands-on production experience with Apache Kafka

Experience with Apache Flink

Hands-on production experience with AWS services

Hands-on experience with Splunk or comparable production monitoring/log-analysis tools

Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

Strong experience with building or supporting data pipelines / large-scale data processing.

Experience with Microservices and distributed systems.

Experience with REST APIs and API security.

Solid understanding of delivery guarantees such as exactly-once and at-least-once processing.

Proven ability to join active projects and deliver value quickly.

Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent.
