Your contribution!
The Senior Director, Health & Safety is the enterprise leader responsible for shaping, advancing and sustaining Innergex's Health & Safety culture and performance across all operations, projects and jurisdictions. As a key member of the leadership team, the incumbent influences strategic decision-making, strengthens organizational capability, and ensures that Health & Safety is embedded as a core value and business imperative throughout the company.
Working in partnership with operations, construction, executive leadership and the Board, the Senior Director establishes the vision, governance framework and performance expectations required to achieve world-class Health & Safety outcomes. The role drives continuous improvement, risk reduction, regulatory compliance and cultural maturity while enabling protected, reliable and sustainable business performance.
The incumbent leads a team of Health & Safety professionals and is accountable for building organizational capability, leadership engagement and accountability to ensure consistent, high-performing Health & Safety practices across Innergex.
Your day-to-day!
Health & Safety Strategy, Governance & Leadership
- Define and execute the enterprise Health & Safety strategy aligned with Innergex's business objectives and values.
- Establish governance frameworks, standards and performance expectations that promote operational excellence and consistent Health & Safety outcomes across all jurisdictions.
- Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership and the Board on Health & Safety risks, opportunities, performance and emerging trends.
- Ensure clear accountability, oversight and reporting mechanisms that support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Champion Health & Safety as a core organizational value and leadership responsibility.
Culture & Organizational Performance
- Lead the evolution of a proactive, interdependent safety culture that drives employee engagement, learning and shared accountability.
- Partner with operational and project leaders to strengthen leadership capability and reinforce behaviours that improve Health & Safety performance.
- Foster an environment where learning from incidents, risks and best practices drives continuous improvement across the organization.
- Promote health, wellness and psychological safety initiatives that contribute to employee wellbeing and organizational resilience.
Health & Safety Management System & Compliance
- Ensure that the Health & Safety Management System remains effective, compliant,
scalable and aligned with recognized industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Drive consistency and harmonization of Health & Safety practices across regions and business units.
- Ensure that the corporate standards, procedures and controls effectively manage organizational risk and support operational requirements.
- Maintain oversight of compliance performance and implement corrective actions where required.
Risk Management & Operational Assurance
- Provide strategic oversight of enterprise Health & Safety risks and critical controls across operations and projects.
- Ensure that robust processes are in place to identify, assess and mitigate risks before incidents occur.
- Provide leadership for emergency preparedness, crisis management and organizational resilience.
- Monitor assurance activities, audits and reviews to validate performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Capability Development & Transformation
- Establish organizational capability through effective training, competency development and leadership programs.
- Lead the digital transformation and modernization of Health & Safety systems, processes and reporting.
- Encourage innovation and the adoption of best practices that improve effectiveness, efficiency and performance.
Leadership & Resource Management
- Lead, develop and mentor a high-performing Health & Safety team.
- Ensure appropriate organizational capacity, resources and investment to support business objectives and Health & Safety priorities.
- Manage departmental budgets and resource plans to maximize business value and performance outcomes.
Your skills, our requirements!
- 12+ years of progressive Health & Safety leadership experience in industrial, utility, energy, infrastructure, construction or similarly complex operating environments.
- Minimum 7-10 years of senior leadership experience leading multi-site and geographically dispersed teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Professional designation such as CRSP, CSP, CHSC, CIH, P.Eng. or equivalent professional accreditation required.
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Organizational Leadership, Risk Management or related discipline considered a strong asset.
- Formal training and demonstrated experience in:
- ISO 45001 Management Systems
- Enterprise Risk Management
- Leadership Development
- Organizational Change Management
- Continuous Improvement methodologies
- Incident Investigation and Learning Systems
- Crisis and Emergency Management
- Expert knowledge of Health & Safety management systems, risk management principles and applicable North American regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to travel regularly throughout Canada and the United States.
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing enterprise Health & Safety strategies that resulted in measurable improvements in culture,
risk reduction and organizational performance.
- Experience influencing executive leadership teams and presenting strategic recommendations, performance results and risk exposures to Boards of Directors or equivalent governance bodies.
- Proven track record leading organizational culture change and large-scale business transformation initiatives.
- Experience overseeing Health & Safety programs across multiple jurisdictions with varying regulatory requirements.
- Strong experience with Health & Safety management systems, including implementation, governance and continuous improvement of ISO 45001 or equivalent frameworks.
- Renewable energy, utilities, power generation or large infrastructure project experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience building high-performing teams and developing leadership capability within organizations.
- Proven executive-level leadership capability with the ability to influence, challenge and align leaders across operations, construction and corporate functions.
- Demonstrated ability to shape organizational culture and drive sustainable improvements in Health & Safety performance across geographically dispersed operations.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to balance risk management, operational excellence and business objectives.
- Credible and influential leader capable of building trust and accountability at all levels of the organization, including Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change, transformation initiatives and continuous improvement programs within complex operating environments.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation and executive presentation skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- High degree of integrity, professional judgment, resilience and leadership presence.
- MS Office Suite.
- Health & Safety Management Systems/Loss Prevention System (LPS).
- Learning Management Systems.
- Bilingualism (French and English, written and spoken) is required to ensure collaboration with different stakeholders outside of Québec on a regular basis.

- This position is a M4 level.
