Role Description The Senior Estimator is a full time, hybrid role based in Dartmouth, NS, with some flexibility for work from home. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for bridge, structural, and custom steel projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing project risks, and developing competitive bids in collaboration with project management, engineering, and fabrication teams.

The Senior

Estimator will liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing, evaluate proposals,



and maintain up-to-date cost data and estimating tools. This role also supports continuous improvement of estimating processes, contributes to project planning and scheduling inputs, and provides clear documentation to support decision-making and client proposals.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in cost estimating and quantity takeoffs for structural and bridge projects, including interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with steel fabrication processes, constructability review, and practical knowledge of heavy structural and architectural steel.
- Proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., Excel, specialized estimating platforms) and solid skills in data analysis and documentation.
- Background in project coordination, including collaboration with engineering, fabrication, logistics, and procurement teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills for working with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Relevant education such as a diploma or degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in bridge or large-scale infrastructure projects and familiarity with Canadian building codes and industry standards are considered assets.
