Position Summary:

The Lead Carpenter position reports to the Production Manager.

Carpenter will be involved in all aspects of the project production process.

Carpenter (LC) is responsible for the management of their designated project site(s), project personnel, on-site trade and vendor personnel, project materials, site safety, site security and site cleanliness.

Carpenter will provide on-site renovation carpentry duties on projects under their supervision.

Carpenter is responsible for project budget management and project labour control.

Goals, Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lead Carpenter is an integral and vitally important part of the JBA team; with responsibilities to the customer, the production and design departments, the employees they supervise, the reputation and the profitability of the company. Lead Carpenters are the face and front line of our organization.

Production

LCs are responsible for the efficient and timely construction of their projects. To that end, specific production responsibilities include:

Prepare for Projects;

- Review project start dates with PM, as required.
- Attend and contribute to Trade Conferences.
- Attend and contribute to Design-to-Production Hand-Off Meetings.
- Fully review and understand prepared HO documentation.
- Request extra or missing HO documentation, as required.
- Review and develop project schedules with the Project Manager.
- Review, with the PM, critical labour, purchasing and material issues.
- Review, with the PM, selected trade and vendors for the upcoming project, developing the Project Trade and Vendor List.
- Prepare and plan project labour requirements.
- Attend and contribute to Customer Hand-Off Meetings.
- Review, with PM, all safety and security issues related to the project

Manage Projects;
- Provide on-site supervision of all JBA labour, trades and vendors working on your projects.
- Ensure, at all times, the safety of all customers, employees, trades, vendors and other visitors to your sites.
- Interact positively with the customer at all times.
- Manage customer service and satisfaction with respect to the site.
- Order site materials, including job-start materials, in a timely manner.
- Supervise site preparation, set-up, dust and damage protection, security and safety requirements at job start.
- Interpret and layout the project as per the provided design information, communicate to site personnel and trades as required.
- Provide, accurately, all take-off sheets to the PM for material ordering in a timely manner.
- Schedule and coordinate delivery of all PM ordered materials.
- Ensure for the timely delivery of all materials to site.




- Ensure all materials delivered to site are as per design and selection requirements, in good condition, are stored appropriately and are ready for installation.
- Ensure site personnel and trades are prepared to complete their work with appropriate design, installation, tools, materials and knowledge to complete their designated tasks.
- Schedule, with reasonable notice, trades and vendors to suit your project schedule in keeping with the agreed to Project Trade and Vendor List.
- Manage on-site JBA labour requirements for all of your projects, coordinating with PM other LCs.
- Review, with the PM, project schedules on a weekly basis.
- Review with the PM, project labour usage on a weekly basis.
- Prepare for, attend and contribute to, weekly LC Job Meetings.
- Manage, review and reach project Job Cost goals.
- Manage customer, trade or site driven Change Orders, through the JBA Change Order process.
- Ensure the highest level of quality possible on every project.
- Attend and contribute to the project Pre-Walkthrough Meetings and Final Walkthrough Meetings.
- Manage the close-out of each project as per the JBA Closeout Process.
- Regularly review project job costing with PM, ensure job costs are maintained as per the original job cost budget.
- Attend and contribute to all Project Autopsy Meetings ensuring a continuous improvement of JBA and its project production process.

Carpentry and Site Duties
- Provide carpentry; including framing and finishing, as well as other renovation duties as required to complete the project.
- Ensure the quality of all JBA installations and work.
- Set-up, layout and manage carpentry duties, with other workers as required.
- Train junior staff in the correct and efficient manner of carpentry work.
- Train junior staff in all aspects for the JBA way with regards to project cleanliness, dust and damage control, project and personal safety, project efficiency and customer service.

Design

- Review all design information and documentation prior to each project.
- Notify design of any discrepancies or issues with respect to the design. Work with design, as/if required to solve design issues.
- Request from Design or your PM, if required, any design information to complete the project in an effective and quality manner.




- Supply Design with information from the site as may be required by Design to complete their work.
- Inform Design of any installation issues as discovered with regards to design details and/or products.
- Work with Design to solve material, product and installation issues as they arise.

Leadership

- The Lead Carpenter will embrace, support, enable and promote the JBA Mission and Vision Statements.
- The Lead Carpenter will maintain a positive attitude at all times towards JBA, other team members, office staff, vendors and trades and JBA customers.
- Support and promote all JBA policies, procedures and initiatives in a positive manner.
- Bring any, and all, negative issues to the attention of the PM or OM immediately. Aid in the solution of these issues.
- Ensure all non-employee vendors and trades maintain the highest regard for JBA when on our sites or communicating with our staff or customers.
- The Lead Carpenter will lead by example.

Professional Education and Experience:

- A minimum of 7 years related residential construction-based design experience.
- Must possess superior carpentry skills which are required for all types of residential renovation projects.
- A working knowledge of all trades associated with residential construction.
- A demonstrated ability to understand complete straightforward plumbing, heating and electrical work.
- A demonstrated ability to operate general business software programs.
- An understanding of the Ontario Building Code as it applies to residential construction, particularly OBC Part 9.
- A demonstrated ability to read, understand and communicate through residential construction design drawing.
- A proven ability to manage people, trades and customer relationships.
- Must have strong organization, communication and project supervisory skills.

Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
