Under the supervision of the Unit Manager, the Service Worker (SW) is an integral member of the health care team. The SW provides patients with a safe and clean environment by utilizing judgment in the execution and prioritization of general housekeeping duties; linen and waste handling; portering of patients; ordering and transporting equipment and supplies; cleaning equipment, stretchers, and exam rooms; assisting patients with general requests; and other related duties as delegated. The SW is responsible for the terminal cleaning of special precaution clinic rooms.
Must be familiar with Universal precautions. Supports WHS practices (i.e cleaning equipment for repair, completing requisitions) as required.
Description
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts.
You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) is required. Basic knowledge of computers and computer software such as Microsoft Office. Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated qualified demeanor and ability to support patients. Being able to perform repetitive tasks is required. Being able to work in a fast paced, high stressful environment with challenging behaviours. Assisting in other clinics within the Ambulatory portfolio is required. The ability to move and transfer weights of over 350lbs is required. Portering patients including bariatric patients to the Diagnostic Imaging departments and to other areas of the hospital is a requirement of this position.
Recent Service
Worker experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Recent outpatient clinic experience (within the last 6 months) is preferred.
