Position Overview
This position is for an existing full-time, permanent vacancy supporting our Ottawa sites.
The office base for this role is located at 220 Laurier Avenue West, Suite 510, Ottawa, Ontario, K1P 5Z9.
The Driver will be responsible for the delivery and retrieval of items in coordination with the Site Superintendents and Site Assistants.
Responsibilities will include the correct and safe loading of the vehicle, recording of delivery information, and ensuring overall vehicle safety. The Driver will be expected to operate the delivery vehicle in a safe manner at all times, obeying all rules of the road, and follow all applicable company policies and procedures.
The Driver works closely with the Field Operations team and is expected to foster cooperative working relationships and deliver excellence in customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and drive the company truck to pick up and deliver various products and items
- Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure
- Deliver products over established routes
- Load and unload products in a safe manner, using provided tools as appropriate (e.g. dollies, lifts, etc.)
- Operate vehicle in a protected manner, obeying all rules of the road
- Ensure all products, materials, and equipment are properly protected and delivered safely in good working condition
- Maintain logs of working hours, inspection, delivery receipts, vehicle service, and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate
- Communicate effectively with clients and co-workers both verbally and in written form
- Provide feedback to supervision regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems
- Deliver equipment for repair/service as required
- Perform basic maintenance as required on certain site equipment
- Comply with all company policies and procedures regarding the delivery of goods
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of professional driving and delivery
- Comfortable performing physical duties associated with loading and unloading materials and equipment of up to 50 lbs.
- Transparent Criminal Background Check
- Computer Literate
- Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance
- Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities
- Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques
- High level of personal integrity
- Strong work ethic
- Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Confident, consistent decisive personality
- Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
- Previous experience in construction, building materials, trades, or a similar site-based environment is considered an asset
Working Conditions
- Monday to Friday – 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
- Travel required
- Will be required to work both indoors and outdoors
- Overtime as required
- Weekend work may be required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
