Reports to: Operations Manager and/or Crew Lead

Summary

The Sidewalk Shoveler (Snow) participates in a team setting to safely and effectively clear snow and control ice on sidewalks, walkways, entrances, stairs, ramps, fire routes and other designated pedestrian areas. Sidewalk Shovelers are expected to be available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week whenever a snow or ice event occurs on assigned sites. The position requires dependable attendance, physical stamina, attention to detail, and diligent digital recordkeeping of work completed.

Responsibilities:

- Respond promptly to calls for snow and ice events and report for assigned shifts on time
- Prepare and show up for shifts free from the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medicines that may affect protected and productive work
- Review site maps,



service requirements and assigned pedestrian areas before beginning work
- Clear snow from sidewalks, walkways, entrances, stairs, ramps, doorways, fire equipment and other designated pedestrian areas
- Pile or relocate snow only to designated and approved locations and keep entrances, exits, drains and fire equipment unobstructed
- Apply salt, ice melter, treated products or other approved de-icing materials at the required application rate
- Monitor pedestrian areas for refreeze, drifting, packed snow and other slip-and-fall hazards and report or address concerns promptly
- Use shovels, pushers, spreaders, scrapers, backpack blowers and other approved hand-operated snow tools safely
- Assist with hand work around areas that cannot be safely reached by snow equipment
- Always be available for communication during a shift and before/after shifts
- Maintain accurate digital records including arrival/departure times, services performed, material applications, site conditions, hazards and weather observations
- Document and report property damage, obstacles, unsafe conditions, incidents and service concerns immediately
- Keep assigned tools and equipment clean,



serviceable and properly stored
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Comply with all company policies and procedures
- Work in accordance with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

- Valid ‘G’ driver’s license is an asset but is not required unless driving a Company vehicle
- Previous snow removal, landscaping, construction or outdoor labor experience is an asset
- Ability to understand site maps, written instructions and digital work records
- Physically fit with strong stamina and able to perform repetitive lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and walking
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and as part of a team
- Reliable transportation to the assigned reporting location or jobsite, where required

Work Conditions:

- Various commercial, institutional and residential locations
- On-call working hours including nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly
- Extended periods of walking, shoveling, pushing, lifting, bending and working on slippery or uneven surfaces
- Fast-paced work during active winter weather events
- Regular work near moving vehicles and heavy equipment
- Outdoor work in extreme cold, snow, freezing rain, wind, wet conditions, darkness and changing weather conditions

Pay: $22.50-$26.50 per hour Expected hours: 1.0 – 50.0 per week
