Position: Software Developer – Process Automation & AI

Reports to: Director, Enterprise Solutions

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Software Developer to join our high-impact development team with a focus on office automation and practical AI integration. This is a hands-on position — you will identify, design, and deliver solutions that reduce repetitive manual work, connect existing systems, and help teams across the business work more efficiently.

This position is suited to someone who can evaluate a process and choose the right automation approach — robotic process automation, workflow tools, scripting, APIs, or a combination — then integrate it with our existing technology stack, including PHP applications, multi-database environments, and ERP-driven processes. Success is measured by tangible results in the areas we support — faster cycle time, cleaner data, and less repetitive work for the people closest to the process. We place a strong emphasis on leveraging AI-assisted tools to enhance productivity and solution quality, and expect this person to apply those practices thoughtfully.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

- Partner with stakeholders in finance, purchasing, operations support, and other departments to map current processes and identify high-value automation opportunities.
- Design, build, and maintain office and business-process automation using the toolset that best fits the problem — including RPA platforms, workflow tools, scripting, APIs, and scheduled jobs.
- Integrate applications and data across our ERP and supporting systems so information moves reliably without duplicate data entry.
- Develop and support internal tools and intelligent assistants that help teams find information, complete routine requests, and stay consistent with established procedures.
- Contribute to PHP-based applications and existing web stacks where automation needs to live inside current company platforms.
- Evaluate, prototype, and implement AI-assisted capabilities in a practical, secure,

and business-appropriate way.
- Support future system implementations and process improvements, including potential people-services system work, by building integrations and automating surrounding workflows.
- Write, optimize, and maintain queries and stored procedures across multiple database platforms as required by automation and reporting needs.
- Work closely with business analysts and/or directly with business stakeholders to gather, clarify, and refine requirements.
- Translate business needs into clear technical solutions with well-defined scope and realistic timelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly and thoroughly; monitor automated jobs and intervene when processes fail.
- Actively leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate coding, improve code quality, and solve problems more efficiently.
- Document systems, processes, and technical decisions to build institutional knowledge.
- Actively and enthusiastically engage in Company vision, mission and values.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of professional experience in software development, process automation, RPA, or a closely related technical role.
- Hands-on experience delivering process automation using RPA platforms, workflow tools, scripting, APIs, or a comparable toolset.

- Proven experience with relational databases and SQL — ability to write and optimize queries and stored procedures is required.
- Experience working directly with business stakeholders or analysts to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence, large language models, and how they can be applied to internal tools or assisted workflows.
- Experience with Python and/or PHP for automation, scripting, integration, or application work is an asset.
- Experience with EDI (electronic data interchange) — including trading-partner documents, mappings, and exception handling — is an asset.
- Experience with IBM DB2 for i (iSeries/AS400) is a significant asset.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL is an asset.
- Experience with n8n, Power Automate, UiPath, or similar workflow / RPA platforms is an asset.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial software environment, and familiarity with ERP-driven business processes, is an asset.
- Experience with version control (Git or similar) is an asset.

Skills and Attributes Required:

- Authentically curious about how the business actually works and willing to sit with users to understand the real process, not just the system screen.
- Solutions-focused — strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of work from discovery through deployment and support.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate clearly between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Pragmatic about AI and automation — interested in tools that are reliable, auditable, and appropriate for the risk of the process.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small, team-oriented team.
- Driven to learn and adopt new technologies, but pragmatic and practical in problem solving.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting workloads.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
