We are currently seeking a motivated and analytical Junior Tax Litigation Associate to join our growing team.
Position Overview
As a Junior Tax Litigation Associate, you will work closely with senior partners and counsel on complex tax disputes involving the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), provincial tax authorities, and federal courts. This is an exceptional opportunity for a junior lawyer looking to build a specialized litigation practice with hands-on courtroom experience. A sincere interest in tax litigation is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Research & Writing: Conduct comprehensive research on complex federal and provincial tax statutes, jurisprudence, and administrative policies. Draft legal opinions, memoranda, notices of appeal, replies, and written submissions…
- File Management: Assist with managing litigation files from audit stage through to trial and appeal, including document review, discovery preparation, and managing production deadlines…
- Court Appearances: Represent clients in hearings, motions, status hearings,
and procedural matters before the Tax Court of Canada and provincial courts as appropriate…
- Client Collaboration: Work directly with clients and witnesses to gather evidence, analyze financial data, and develop compelling factual and legal narratives…
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Call: Canadian Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, and a member in good standing (or eligible for call) with the relevant provincial law society.
- Experience: 1 to 2 years of experience in tax law or tax litigation.
- Academic Background: A demonstrated interest in tax law. Strong academic record; specialized training in tax law is strongly preferred.
- Skills: Exceptional written, oral advocacy, and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Mindset: A proactive, curious problem-solver who operates with a sense of urgency and thrives in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding setting.
