The Role – Temporary Jr. Accountant (3-Month Contract)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Accountant to join our Finance team on a temporary 3-month contract, reporting directly to the Financial Controller. This role will provide support across day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. This is an excellent prospect for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, expense reports, and vendor/customer reconciliations.
- Perform routine account and bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies as needed.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of financial reports and accounting documentation.
- Support the Finance team with data entry, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring transactions are properly recorded.
- Assist with accounting activities related to US-based subsidiaries, as required.
- Support the preparation of audit documentation and other financial information as needed.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Utilize accounting systems and Microsoft Excel to support accounting processes and reporting. Experience with NetSuite is an asset.
- Collaborate with Finance and other departments to resolve accounting-related questions and ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Support ad hoc accounting projects and other Finance initiatives as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of accounting experience in a corporate workplace is preferred; recent graduates with relevant internship or co-op experience will also be considered.
- Basic understanding of Canadian accounting principles and financial processes.
- Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and data organization; experience with pivot tables is an asset.
- Experience with accounting software or ERP systems; NetSuite experience is an asset but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the Finance team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Contract Details
- Position: Jr. Accountant
- Employment Type: Temporary
- Contract Length: 3 months
- Reports to: Financial Controller
- Compensation: $65,000 CAD annual salary, prorated for the 3-month contract
