Position Overview The Tool-Crib Attendant is responsible for the control, tracking, issuance, and return of tools and small equipment used in Tyrod’s operations. This role plays a critical part in maintaining tool availability, accountability, and readiness to support safe, efficient production.

The Tool-Crib Attendant ensures tools are properly issued, inspected, maintained, and stored, while maintaining accurate records and working closely with shop personnel, supervisors, and planning, to support daily operational needs.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail oriented, safety conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial shop environment.

Responsibilities

Tool Control & Issuance

- Issue, receive, and track tools and small equipment to shop personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of tool assignments, returns, and condition.
- Ensure tools are issued in accordance with company procedures and safety requirements.
- Follow up on overdue, missing, or damaged tools and escalate issues as required.

Inventory & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate tool-crib inventory records using logs or digital tracking systems.
- Conduct regular tool counts and audits to ensure accountability and availability.
- Maintain and manage welding consumable inventory to support shop and project requirements.
- Identify damaged, missing, or worn tools and coordinate repair or replacement.
- Support tracking of calibration status for measuring and specialty tools, where applicable.

Inspection, Maintenance & Readiness
- Inspect tools upon return to ensure they are safe, functional, and ready for reuse.
- Coordinate basic cleaning, tagging, and storage of tools.
- Perform basic repairs on small tools, including grinders, drills, saws, and similar equipment.
- Support preventative maintenance and calibration schedules.




- Remove unsafe or defective tools from service and report concerns promptly.

Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with shop personnel, supervisors, and planners to ensure tools are available to support production schedules.
- Communicate tool availability, shortages, or issues that may impact work.
- Support mobilization and demobilization of tools for projects as required.

Safety & Organization
- Maintain a clean, organized, and protected tool-crib environment.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Promote accountability and proper tool use across the shop and project teams.

Qualifications & Competencies

Education

- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience

- 1 – 3+ years experience in a tool-crib, warehouse, shop, or industrial environment required.
- Experience working in construction, fabrication, industrial services, or manufacturing environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment is required.
- Experience with inventory tracking systems or logs is an asset.

- Communicates clearly and professionally with shop personnel and supervisors.
- Confident in addressing tool accountability, availability, and safety concerns.

- Works collaboratively with shop, planning, and project teams to support production goals.
- Contributes to a respectful, safety-focused work environment.

Time Management
- Effectively prioritizes tool requests to support production schedules.
- Manages workload efficiently during peak activity periods.

Working Conditions

- Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, based in the shop.
- Occasional overtime may be required to support production demands.
- Regular interaction with shop personnel, supervisors, and project teams.
- Work is performed in an active industrial shop environment, requiring awareness of equipment, materials, and ongoing operations.

What we offer

- Salary Range: $58,000.00 to $73,000.00 per year, commensurate with experience
