Our client, BA Group is a transportation planning and engineering firm that solves the most complex challenges through sustainable mobility planning. Their firm is comprised of consulting engineers and transportation planners who provide qualified services in support of a wide variety of land use development projects and have contributed to the success of thousands of noteworthy projects in Southern Ontario and across Canada.
THE ROLE
They are looking for a full-time Transportation CAD Technician to join their team. As a Transportation CAD Technician, you will work under the direction of the Senior Management team of BA Group.
This is an early-career to mid-level position with responsibilities that will include development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of CAD standards, tools, and libraries used by the Transportation Consultants. In addition, this position will support teams on various Research and Development initiatives. Your role also includes supporting the Graphics Design team in the production of transportation CAD graphics, ensuring consistent quality and efficiency across project deliverables.
This position is hybrid with 3-days in-office (Toronto location). You will be responsible for liaising with BA Group technical staff to provide support to ensure the smooth functioning of BA Group’s CAD system.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Your responsibilities will vary from day to day but will generally include (but not limited to) the following:
CAD Resource Management
- Maintain and update Transportation CAD standards, templates, libraries, and reference files.
- Manage and update signage and pavement marking CAD resources.
- Administer and maintain CAD toolbars, menus, workspace configurations.
- Maintain and enhance existing CAD customizations and support tools.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to CAD users.
Special Projects and Tasks
- Coordinate CAD user meetings and assist with communication of standards, procedures, and updates.
- Collaborate with Transportation Designers and Engineers to identify opportunities for process improvement and to provide support and training on CAD tools and best practices.
- Research and evaluate emerging CAD tools and technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
- Perform other related tasks, as assigned, which are necessary to achieve BA Group’s CAD corporate goals.
Transportation Graphics Production
- Produce CAD-related graphics based on corporate standards and in support of the Graphics Design Team.
You will be responsible for communicating regularly with project team members to ensure project goals are met. Excellent communication skills are a fundamental requirement for this position.
Your responsibilities are expected to grow and change with time and experience gained with BA Group. Over time, you may also become responsible for project management tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL SETS
Specific educational and qualifications required for this position are as follows:
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design, or a related field.
- 3-10 years of prior experience supporting transportation engineering CAD production.
- Other equivalent work experience may be considered where the candidate can demonstrate a high proficiency in the required skills.
- Proficiency with AUTOCAD.
- Experience maintaining CAD standards, templates, and drawing libraries.
- Knowledge of transportation design deliverables, including signage and pavement marking plans and traffic engineering plans.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
Preferred skills for this position are as follows:
- Experience developing CAD automation tools using AutoLISP or similar technologies.
- Experience in other Autodesk software such as Revit, Civil 3D and Vehicle Tracking.
- Experience with Bluebeam and Adobe products.
- Experience developing technical graphics and visual communication materials.
