Pay: $20–$24/hour

Surgo Studios is looking for an experienced and creative Video Editor Contractor to join our team in a hybrid capacity in Ottawa.

We’re specifically looking for someone whose main strength is editing. You should have a strong portfolio of work you have personally edited and be confident taking raw footage and turning it into polished, intentional, high-quality content.

What we’re looking for

- Strong professional experience as a video editor
- Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and/or DaVinci Resolve. CapCut and AI-generated editing tools should not be your primary editing workflow.
- Advanced colour grading and colour correction, including intensive cinematic grading
- Strong ability to stabilize and clean up footage
- Excellent sense of music selection, pacing, rhythm, and emotional tone
- Experience with motion graphics, animated text, titles, transitions, and visual elements
- Creative editing skills and the ability to make intentional choices beyond simply assembling clips
- Strong attention to detail in transitions, sound design, timing, framing, and overall polish
- Experience editing short-form social content, event highlight videos, founder stories, interviews, branded videos, Reels, TikToks, and YouTube content
- Familiarity with current social media trends and editing styles
- Ability to adapt to different brands, audiences, and creative directions
- Very open to feedback, revisions, and collaborative creative direction
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines
- Videography and camera experience is a bonus
- Experience with social media management or content strategy is a bonus

This is an editing-focused contractor position.



We are not primarily looking for a videographer, director, or content creator. Your portfolio should clearly demonstrate your skills and experience specifically as an editor.

Please include a portfolio with your application. We especially want to see examples demonstrating strong colour grading, stabilization, music selection, storytelling, and polished social content.
