Overview:
We are seeking a dependable and hands-on Yard Supervisor to oversee daily yard operations, support production flow, maintain safe and organized yard conditions, and coordinate closely with shipping, dispatch, quality control, production, and other department supervisors. This role is responsible for ensuring products, materials, equipment, and yard activities are managed efficiently while supporting team communication, safety, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Review the daily shipping schedule to understand outgoing product requirements and coordinate with Dispatch regarding special pickups, timing, and loading needs.
- Review the previous day’s production report to identify expected product volumes requiring patching, repair, staging, or yard handling.
- Walk through outside production areas and meet with the patching crew to discuss product issues, concerns, or repair priorities, then communicate feedback to production leads for follow-up and correction.
- Meet with Quality Control and other department supervisors to review the previous day’s production, discuss successes and challenges, and identify support needed for teams throughout the day.
- Check in with the Wet Cast Supervisor to identify material movement needs and communicate priorities to the Yard Lead Hand for delegation and completion.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory by inspecting yard areas, stockpiles, and stored products to ensure proper organization, product rotation by date, safe access, and overall yard condition.
- Promote and maintain 7S standards by identifying opportunities to improve yard layout, material flow, loading efficiency and overall operational performance, as well as ensuring the yard team keeps the area clean, organized, and free of debris, including wood, garbage, and loose materials.
- Communicate with the Production Scheduler regarding low stock levels so required products can be planned into upcoming production schedules.
- Lead weekly group safety talks and encourage team members to raise safety issues, operational concerns, and improvement ideas.
- Maintain communication with regular truck drivers to identify site issues, loading concerns, or observations that may not otherwise be reported.
- Participate in weekly supervisor meetings to review upcoming production plans, discuss departmental issues, and recognize team accomplishments.
- Track EPS recycled foam, record full pallet weights, coordinate with the appropriate shipping contact for full container loads, oversee loading procedures, and provide required shipment photos.
- Manage winter yard maintenance, including salt inventory, salt bin placement, snow clearing, gritting to reduce slip hazards, and removal of snow piles from the property as required.
- Ensure Yard equipment is inspected daily and deficiencies are reported promptly.
- Coordinate with the Quality Control Manager to ensure selected products are brought in for testing as needed.
- Work with third party contractors for larger yard projects, seasonal landscaping, equipment maintenance, annual yard grading, and oiling.
Qualifications:
- Experience in yard operations, production support, shipping, logistics, construction materials, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to work effectively with dispatch, production, quality control, supervisors, drivers, and yard employees.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities throughout the day.
- Strong attention to safety, housekeeping, product organization, and inventory awareness.
