Overview JS-U25-41 Educational Support Worker - Terry Fox House

Location: Daytime School Location & Terry Fox House

Status: Full-time, Permanent

Hours/Shifts: Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. Schedules are subject to change dependent on operational needs.

Pay: CA$56,500 per year

Base pay range CA$56,500.00/yr - CA$56,500.00/yr

Responsibilities

School-Based Responsibilities (Primary Focus)

Daily Security & Arrival Procedures

Arrive at the school at 8am to complete security/perimeter checks

Communicate with program drivers to coordinate staggered entry to individual classrooms

Consistent radio usage to keep classroom staff updated on program arrivals

Classroom & School Safety: ensure all classroom and section doors remain secured and student safety

Monitor hallways and exterior areas for suspicious activity

Escort youth to washrooms and kitchen areas, and search facilities pre-and post-use

Ongoing tracking of youth movement to ensure safety and that youth don't intersect

Youth Behavioural & Classroom Support: provide support in classrooms when behavioural concerns arise

Sit with youth removed from class for self-regulation or meetings, ensuring teaching staff are never alone with a young person

Support lunch periods by escorting youth to the kitchen and ensuring program staff presence at all times

Cover classrooms when program staff need to exit temporarily

Dismissal Procedures: ensure safe dismissal by clearing hallways and outdoor areas

Program-Based Responsibilities (Secondary Focus)

When school is not in session, support youth directly within the Terry Fox House program

Assisting youth with hygiene, life skills, social skills, and individualized planning





Supporting case management in collaboration with the Senior Counsellor

Developing and administering education-based, youth-centered plans

Attending court with youth and assisting with appointments as needed

Participating in program planning, crisis intervention, and creating a safe, trauma-informed setting

Preparing/pre-cooking meals following safe food handling protocols

Administration & Professional Development

Maintain timely and accurate notes and logs using case management software and other administrative tasks

Support reporting of statistics and notes for program evaluation or special projects

Writing Serious Occurrence Reports Level 2s as required

Perform security calls and house checks as per policy

Participate in individual and team meetings, supervisory meetings, planning sessions, and trainings

Collaborate with team members and model the agency’s mission and values

Other duties as assigned and participate in strategic planning and committees when required

Regular reporting to funders and involvement in program budgeting

Education/Experience

Diploma/Undergraduate Degree in the Social Sciences, Child and Youth Care, Social Work. Related education will be considered

Minimum one year experience working with youth who have experienced trauma from a trauma-informed framework

Experience in crisis prevention and intervention





Culturally responsive approach to working with diverse populations

Valid G driver's license

Understanding of systemic barriers affecting youth

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders with minimal supervision

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Assets (preferred)

Understanding of Youth Criminal Justice Act, Education Act, Safe Schools Act

Experience in a licensed residential setting

Current Standard First Aid and CPR, CPI, ASIST

Proficiency in French
