We take this time to express our gratitude and respect to them and to the land for all that it has provided and will continue to provide.Job DescriptionReporting to the Dean, this position provides broad academic leadership to the diverse programs in the department. The Academic Chair ensures that educational programming meets the needs of students, industry partners and adheres to certification and designation requirements. The Chair has familiarity with academic and administrative policies and the inter-relationships with college departments.With accountability for the planning, development, delivery, evaluation, and management of the department's activities, the incumbent ensures the effective use of resources with a focus on financial sustainability. The Chair ensures that objectives of the programs offered by the Department are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The Chair facilitates the on-going review of existing programs and the development of new programs to reflect market changes, and the employment needs of industry.The incumbent conducts first-level investigation of complaints from students and staff and initiates the problem-solving process. The incumbent establishes positive relationships with industry and business representatives and participates in the College's student recruitment and job placement initiatives for graduates. Additionally, the Chair is fully responsible for all activities taking place in Restaurant International and Savoir Fare.Key DutiesCollaborates with the Dean in establishing a strategic direction for the Department that supports the strategic plan of the College and deploys resources accordinglyFacilitates the development of effective communications between faculty and support staff to encourage proactive participation and support of departmental/college objectivesProvides academic leadership in curriculum review and ensures adherence to program quality assurance processesEnsures that Occupational Health and Safety requirements for the department are implementedOther duties as assignedRequired QualificationsMinimum master's degree related to the areas of Business, Hospitality or TourismMinimum of 9 years related experience in increasingly responsible rolesMinimum of 2 years of leadership and management experience, with experience in a post-secondary educational institution preferredExperience in managing personnel in a unionized environmentDemonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education preferably within an applied post-secondary environmentDemonstrable understanding of student engagement for the purpose of achieving student successDemonstrated understanding of the value and practice of applied researchDemonstrated ability to speak with external groups and individuals and the ability to engage partners and other relevant organizations to enhance College operationsDemonstrated knowledge of financial management systems ensuring financial viability for the FacultyExcellent organizational, planning and financial management skillsSpecialized Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesDemonstrated expertise in strategic planning, program development, and operational leadershipKnowledge of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and educational best practicesStrong interpersonal, communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholdersProven ability to navigate complex workplace situations through effective conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiationStrong leadership and people management skills, including coaching, performance management, and team developmentProficiency with business and educational technologies, including Microsoft Office applications and enterprise systemsExperience working with learning management systems and administrative platforms such as Brightspace, Workday, GeneSIS, and COMMSKnowledge of financial management principles, budgeting processes, and financial reporting toolsUnderstanding of applied research methodologies and the integration of research into program and organizational decision-makingAbility to analyze information, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement effective solutions in a complex environment*This position is paid at Payband 13Vacancy is for P01837This position is eligible for hybrid work, with a minimum 2 days onsite, in conjunction with the College's Flexible Work Arrangement Policy. https://www.Algonquincollege.Com/policies/hr26/ (subject to change).Why Join Algonquin College?Compensation: Many roles offer a competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, and retirement plans designed to support your well-being.
