Our employees enjoy working here because of our varied projects, high levels of autonomy, opportunities for career development, excellent total compensation and benefits package, and collaborating with a team of great professionals.The Opportunity: McElhanney is seeking a highly experienced Senior Resident Engineering Representative (RER) to support the construction of a ~35 km mining access road in rugged mountainous terrain in Northwest British Columbia. The road is comparable to Forest Service Road (FSR)–style linear infrastructure and will require strong field judgment, practical engineering experience, and confident on‐site leadership. This role is suited for a hands‐on field skilled with 10+ years of experience who is comfortable working in remote, camp‐based environments and making real‐time engineering decisions in the field. Note: This role is not the Engineer of Record (EoR). The Senior RER will have authority to make minor geometry changes in the field and is expected to communicate changes to the broader project team. Significant deviations from the design must be reviewed with the Engineer of Record prior to implementation.Job Details:Location: Remote Project Site, Northwest British ColumbiaRotation: 14 Days On / 12 Days Off (paid travel day on either side of rotation)Schedule: 12‐hour shifts (primarily day shift; infrequent night shiftsas required)Season: July 1 to October 30. Annually for 3–4 years and could start as early as May in 2027 and beyond.Start Date: Anticipated June 1, 2026Key Responsibilities:Make minor field-fit geometry adjustments (horizontal and vertical alignment) to address constructability and site conditionsMark up IFC drawings to clearly document approved field changesCoordinate daily with contractors, inspectors,



and site personnelPrepare daily reports, progress summaries, and quantity trackingReview and respond to RFIs and issue field instructions as requiredIdentify, document, and manage non‐conformancesInterface with environmental and permitting team members as requiredProvide visible safety leadership, including completion of Field‐Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs)Hold contractors and site personnel accountable to safety and quality expectationsField Conditions & Safety:Remote, camp‐based project in mountainous terrainSafety‐sensitive, dry site (no drugs or alcohol permitted)Pre‐hire and ongoing pre‐access drug and alcohol testing requiredMust be physically fit and capable of working long hours in challenging terrain and weather conditionsQualifications & Experience:Minimum 10+ years of relevant field and construction experienceP.Eng., P.Tech., or AScTOther professional accreditation may be considered based on experienceStrong background in linear infrastructure, access roads, or similar resource projectsComfortable making field decisions with limited survey data when requiredConfident communicator with strong leadership presenceValid Class 5 driver's license requiredDesign & Technical Expectations:Perform field‐fit redesigns and geometry adjustmentsMark up IFC drawings clearly and accuratelyNo requirement to draft changes in AutoCAD or Civil 3D — office staff will translate markupsAbility to work with incomplete or evolving information while maintaining design intentEmployment Status:Seasonal contract positionOpen to independent contractors (daily rate to be negotiated)Travel, Camp & PPE:Camp accommodations and meals providedTravel arranged by McElhanney (Western Canada based candidates welcome)Steel‐toed boots required (eligible for McElhanney boot allowance)All other PPE supplied by McElhanneyHourly Rate: The hourly rate for this position is $52.88 - $72.12 per hour.
