Role Overview The Intermediate Civil Engineer will provide civil and structural engineering design services and discipline-lead support for projects undertaken by HOCS Projects. Most assignments will involve small to medium-sized brownfield projects within the Oil & Gas industry. This role will support projects throughout all phases of execution, with responsibility for civil and structural engineering, technical deliverables, multi-disciplinary coordination, and maintaining the quality, schedule, and budget requirements of assigned engineering scopes.

Key Responsibilities Civil & Structural Engineering

Engineering & Design:

Perform civil and structural engineering for steel structures, equipment foundations, pipe supports, and minor site development and site preparation work throughout all project phases.

Technical Deliverables:

Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and other civil/structural engineering documentation.

Engineering Packages:

Prepare and contribute to Design Basis Memoranda (DBMs), Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) reports, Construction Work Packages (CWPs), and other technical documentation.

Technical Reviews:

Review drawings, calculations, specifications, vendor documents, and other engineering deliverables.

Codes & Standards:

Ensure technical deliverables comply with applicable client requirements, HOCS procedures, engineering codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Technical Quality:

Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and overall technical quality of civil and structural engineering deliverables.

Discipline Leadership & Coordination

Discipline Leadership:

Lead a small civil/structural discipline team with guidance and support from senior leadership.

Multi-Disciplinary Coordination:

Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, vendors, and contractors to support effective project execution.

Technical Guidance:

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technologists.

Continuous Improvement:

Support quality management, continuous improvement initiatives,



and the development of engineering procedures and standards.

Project Planning & Controls

Scope Execution:

Deliver assigned engineering scopes within established project schedules, budgets, and man-hour targets.

Material Take-Offs:

Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) to support engineering, procurement, and project planning.

Engineering Estimates:

Prepare engineering estimates and order-of-magnitude construction cost estimates.

Work Management:

Organize and manage multiple engineering assignments and priorities while maintaining project requirements and deadlines.

Field & Project Support

Site Visits:

Participate in site visits, field investigations, existing-condition assessments, and construction support activities as required.

Brownfield Support:

Assist with field verification and the assessment of existing facilities to support the development and integration of brownfield designs.

Site Safety:

Travel to remote project sites and comply with all applicable client and site-specific health and safety requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements Education & Professional Registration

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.

Professional Registration:

Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, or registered in another Canadian jurisdiction and eligible to obtain registration with APEGA within three months of employment.

Driver’s Licence:

Valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel to project sites as required.

Work Authorization:

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Experience

Industry Experience:

Relevant civil/structural engineering experience within the Oil & Gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, or a comparable industrial sector.

Technical Experience:





Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and construction work packages.

Civil/Structural Knowledge:

Sound knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundation, and civil/site design.

Codes & Standards:

Working knowledge of applicable Canadian engineering codes, industry standards, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.

Technical Skills

Structural Analysis:

Proficiency in RISA-3D or comparable structural analysis software.

Design Tools: Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD applications.

Microsoft Office:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Communication:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, vendors, and contractors.

Organization:

Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.

Problem Solving:

Sound technical judgment with strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
