Electrical Engineer – Renewables (Full-Time, Permanent)Location: Calgary, AlbertaRole OverviewA growing renewable energy company is seeking an Electrical Engineer – Renewables to support the development, engineering, execution and optimization of utility-scale renewable energy projects across North America.This role is highly technical and execution-driven, supporting projects from early‑stage development through detailed design, construction, commissioning and operations. The successful candidate will work closely with development teams, EPC contractors, utilities, consultants and equipment suppliers to ensure projects are technically optimized, bankable and delivered according to schedule and budget.The position will focus on utility‑scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), wind energy and hybrid renewable energy systems.Key Responsibilities1. Project Development & Technical SupportSupport technical development activities for utility‑scale renewable energy projectsReview and optimize project electrical designs during development stagesSupport feasibility studies, interconnection evaluations and technical due diligenceCoordinate with utilities, AESO / AUC, consultants and land and permitting teamsSupport technical risk assessments and development strategies for solar, wind and BESS projects2. Electrical Design & EngineeringReview and support detailed electrical design for utility‑scale solar PV plants, battery energy storage systems, utility‑scale wind farms, and hybrid renewable energy facilitiesReview single‑line diagrams, collector systems, protection and control systems, MV/HV substations, grounding systems, SCADA and communication systems, turbine electrical interfaces and collector networksCoordinate with EPC contractors and engineering consultants to ensure design optimization and compliance3.
Interconnection & Grid ComplianceSupport interconnection processes with utilities and transmission operatorsReview and coordinate load flow studies, short circuit studies, harmonic studies, dynamic modeling requirements and grid compliance studiesSupport compliance with AESO requirements, utility standards, grid code requirements and wind turbine generator requirementsAssist with commissioning and energization planning4. Procurement & Technical EvaluationSupport procurement and technical evaluation of major electrical equipment, including inverters, wind turbines, transformers, MV/HV equipment, BESS systems and SCADA systemsReview supplier technical documentation and factory acceptance testing proceduresParticipate in vendor selection and technical negotiations5. Construction & Commissioning SupportProvide engineering support during construction and commissioning phasesReview RFIs, technical submittals and field design changesSupport QA/QC activities, testing and commissioning procedures, energization coordination and performance verificationCoordinate with field teams and EPC contractors to resolve technical issues efficiently6. Technical Due Diligence & OptimizationSupport technical due diligence for project acquisitions and financingReview EPC designs, energy yield assumptions, PVSyst and wind resource assessments, curtailment assumptions, equipment specifications and grid integration strategiesIdentify opportunities for technical and commercial optimization7. Cross‑Functional CollaborationWork closely with development, EPC and construction teams, finance, asset management, external consultants and utilitiesProvide practical,
