Civil EngineerLocation: Calgary, AlbertaRole OverviewA growing renewable energy company is seeking a Civil Engineer to support the design, engineering, execution, and optimization of utility-scale renewable energy projects across North America.This role is highly technical and execution-driven, supporting projects from early-stage development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering teams, construction personnel, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to ensure projects are technically optimized, constructible, and delivered according to schedule and budget.The position will focus on utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Coordination & Project SupportCoordinate and manage engineering consultants to ensure timely, accurate, and complete deliverablesSupport engineering scope evaluations and determine appropriate self-perform versus subcontracted activitiesCoordinate with:Engineering consultantsConstruction teamsSuppliersSubcontractorsProject stakeholdersSupport project execution strategies and technical risk assessments throughout development and construction phasesCivil Design & EngineeringReview and support detailed civil and structural design activities for:Utility-scale solar PV facilitiesBattery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)Site infrastructure and access roadsDrainage and stormwater systemsReview:Civil drawings and specificationsEngineering calculationsStormwater management designsHydrologic and hydraulic studiesEnvironmental compliance requirementsGeotechnical reports and foundation recommendationsCoordinate with consultants and contractors to ensure design optimization, constructability, and complianceSite Analysis & Technical EvaluationReview project geotechnical investigations and piling studiesAssist with foundation selection, pile design considerations, tracker configuration,
and site optimizationPerform and/or oversee:Cut and fill analysisEarthwork optimizationMaterial take-offsTechnical evaluations supporting project planning and executionSupport technical assessments during development, bidding, and construction phasesProcurement & Contractor SupportReview and validate:Material take-offsProcurement requirementsShop drawingsSupplier documentationSupport subcontractor and supplier bid evaluationsParticipate in contractor qualification, vendor management, and technical review processesAssist with maintaining approved supplier and subcontractor networksConstruction & Field SupportProvide engineering support during construction activitiesConduct site visits and inspections, including:Environmental compliance reviewsErosion and sediment control inspectionsSurvey coordinationPiling coordinationInstallation quality assuranceReview RFIs, technical submittals, and field design changesCoordinate with field teams and contractors to resolve technical issues efficientlyQuality Control & Project DocumentationPrepare and manage:SubmittalsTransmittalsRFIsProject documentationDevelop and implement:Quality control proceduresInspection processesCommissioning support documentationInstallation manuals and site reporting processesEnsure project records remain organized and accessibleEstimating, Proposals & Continuous ImprovementReview RFPs and provide technical input related to:Civil engineeringStructural considerationsConstructabilityCost evaluationsDevelop:Material take-offsCost estimatesSupplier quotationsSupport proposal development activitiesContribute to standardization and continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering designs, reporting processes, and project executionCandidate ProfileQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering,
