Join ASIRT as a Legal Counsel and leverage your criminal law expertise in Calgary or Edmonton. This full-time role provides crucial legal support for police oversight investigations.

As a senior legal qualified, you'll be advising investigators and staff while working on significant matters involving police conduct. Your responsibilities encompass providing specialized legal advice, reviewing judicial authorizations, and ensuring the integrity of investigations under ASIRT's oversight. This position demands independence and a thorough understanding of legal frameworks surrounding law enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide specialized legal advice on investigative processes
• Research legal trends in civilian oversight and criminal law




• Support ongoing investigations with legal assistance
• Prepare and review judicial authorizations for legality
• Conduct reviews of completed investigations for legal sufficiency

Requirements:
• LL.B. or JD with 8+ years in criminal law
• Active membership with the Law Society of Alberta
• Advanced knowledge of Criminal Code and Police Act
• Skills in legal writing and communication
• Experience in complex legal processes
