AboutMount Milligan Mine Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in centralBC,the Mount Milligan Mineis a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates withcomfortablecamp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Metallurgist to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.
This role operates on a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.
The Senior Metallurgist will report to the Superintendent, Metallurgy and will be responsible to lead the shift Metallurgists/Technicians and provide technical support to the Mill Operations team. The Senior Metallurgist provides technical leadership for metallurgical performance, optimization, and continuous improvement across Mount Milligan plant operations. The position directly supervises Plant Metallurgists and Metallurgical Technicians, ensuring safe work practices and compliance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures. The role plans and schedules metallurgical work to meet departmental goals, KPIs, project milestones, and deadlines while providing guidance and mentorship to the team.
The Senior Metallurgist monitors plant performance, identifies process variability, and develops recommendations to improve stability, efficiency, recovery, and overall plant performance. Responsibilities include conducting investigations, metallurgical test work, technical projects, data analysis, and process evaluations to maintain performance and identify opportunities to exceed targets. Working closely with Mill Operations Supervisors and multidisciplinary teams, the Senior Metallurgist provides technical support to operations and leads complex metallurgical projects.
Responsibilities include equipment inspections, team scheduling, and ensuring project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, quality, and safety requirements. Advanced proficiency with systems such as PI, SAP, TapRooT, and Management of Change is expected.
The Senior Metallurgist supports commissioning and ramp-up activities, including metallurgical accounting and performance testing, and leads risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID, and operability reviews. The position requires strong leadership, project management, communication, and technical expertise in mineral processing, supported by a degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, or Chemical Engineering and relevant industry experience.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Direct supervision of Plant Metallurgists, Junior Metallurgists, and Metallurgical Technicians. Ensure all employees work safely in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures.
Plan and schedule metallurgical work plan to meet departmental goals, KPIs, project milestones, and deadlines.
Provide guidance and mentorship to Metallurgists/Technicians under direct supervision.
Monitor and report on plant performance, identify sources of variability and make recommendations for improvements to increase stability and efficiency.
Conduct investigations, test work, and technical projects to maintain performance and identify opportunities to exceed targets.
Support assay lab personnel through QAQC monitoring, recommendations, and spreadsheet provisions.
Maintain quality control programs within the plant and onsite laboratory.
Take lead on complex technical projects and guide Metallurgists & Metallurgical Technicians to support these projects.
Analyze metallurgical data and interpret results to guide process improvements.
Lead equipment inspections and ensure safety of the team while performing inspections.
Support Mill Operations Supervisors and provide technical recommendations.
Demonstrates advanced proficiency in utilizing various management tools and systems essential for operations, such as SAP, TapRooT, MOC (Management of Change), etc.
Approve and maintain team schedule work time and vacations.
Ensure project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and safety standards.
Support commissioning and ramp-up, including metallurgical accounting and performance tests.
Lead risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID, and operability reviews
About You The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Materials, or Chemical) or equivalent
Professional engineering designation and capacity to transfer to EGBC
5-15+ years of experience in mineral processing, metallurgy, or process engineering (range varies by seniority).
Class 5 driver’s license with clean abstract
Experience and competency in mineral processing, specifically with comminution and copper/gold flotation experience
Requirement to meetpre-employment testing
Working Conditions Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14, 12 hours per day
Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive setting and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
