The Senior Buyer leads strategic sourcing and procurement activities for a portfolio of critical commodities and key supplier relationships. This role negotiates complex contracts and long-term supply agreements and manages risk across the supply base. The Senior Buyer partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality and Finance on sourcing decisions, mentors junior buyers, and is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy in resolving escalated supply issues and driving continuous improvement across the procurement function.
Lead sourcing and negotiation of complex, contracts, and long-term agreements with strategic suppliers to secure optimal cost, quality, delivery, and risk terms
Partner with Quality to develop and maintain an approved supplier list. Conduct supplier visits as required and maintain publish KPI’s.
Develop and execute category strategies in partnership with commodity management, aligning sourcing decisions with broader business and operational objectives
Own supplier relationship management for critical and strategic suppliers, leading business reviews, and governance cadences to drive accountability and performance
Monitor supplier performance and key performance indicators, leading root cause analysis and corrective action plans for supply disruptions or quality escalations
Review and approve purchase requisitions and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, policy compliance, and appropriate approval controls
Partner with Accounts Payable and Materials teams to resolve purchasing, invoicing, and receiving discrepancies




Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings to determine quantity of material to buy and best source of supply
Serve as an escalation point for day-to-day procurement issues such as delivery delays, allocation constraints, or quality concerns
Collaborate with Quality, Engineering and Operations on new product introduction sourcing, ensuring timely qualification and availability of materials
Partner with Planning and Operational Excellence teams to implement and sustain lean practices with suppliers, including kanban, min/max and just-in-time processes where applicable
Mentor and provide guidance to junior buyers, sharing negotiation and risk management expertise
Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory and export control requirements in all procurement activities
Own the accuracy and integrity of supplier master data and purchasing records within the ERP system
Advanced proficiency in ERP and production planning systems
Solid working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, strategic sourcing methodologies
Strong financial and analytical acumen, including should-cost modeling and total cost of ownership analysis
Excellent verbal, written and executive-level communication, and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority
Exceptional negotiation skills, with a track record of leading complex, high-value negotiations and developing win-win supplier relationships




Strong attention to detail with the ability to problem-solve and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter with sound judgment and the ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy
Additional Requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other relevant software tools
Certification in supply chain management, such as APICS CPIM, CSCP, or CPSM, preferred
Experience with nuclear safety standards is preferred
Ability to travel domestically or internationally (up to 25%)
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a combination of degree and equivalent experience
5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, materials management, or supply chain roles
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing facility, including direct materials or capital equipment sourcing
Demonstrated experience leading supplier negotiations and managing key/strategic supplier relationships
Prior experience mentoring or informally leading other buyers or procurement staff preferred
