Job DescriptionTERMINAL OPERATIONS SUPERINTENDENTLittle River or NanaimoThe OpportunityBC Ferries is seeking a collaborative and strategic leader to join our team as Terminal Operations Superintendent. In this senior leadership role, you will provide direction and oversight for terminal operations throughout the Nanaimo and North Coast regions, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of service across some of British Columbia's most diverse coastal communities.From the busy terminals serving Vancouver Island to the unique and remote communities of the North Coast, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the transportation network that connects people, goods, and communities throughout coastal British Columbia.The RoleReporting to the Director, Terminal Operations, you provide leadership and oversight in the following key areas:Operational Leadership and Strategic DirectionProvide leadership, coaching, and support to Regional Managers, Terminal Managers, and terminal teams to ensure consistent execution of operational standardsAssist the Director, Terminal Operations in setting strategic direction, developing operational plans, and aligning terminal activities with organizational goalsPlan, develop, and implement strategies to meet performance targets, budget expectations, service requirements, and operational deadlinesSupport the development of multi-year business plans, key performance indicators, terminal master plans, and operational strategiesSafety, Security, Environmental, and SMS OversightOversee and support the effective implementation of the Safety Management System within terminal operationsMonitor injury trends, assess root causes, and develop data-informed strategies to reduce risk and improve safety performanceParticipate in safety, security, and environmental consultations, ensuring operational concerns are addressed and regulatory requirements are metPromote a proactive safety culture by supporting hazard reporting, corrective actions, preventative measures, and continuous improvementEmergency Response, Business Continuity, and Asset UtilizationIn collaboration with the Operations and Security Centre, support and lead terminal response during emergencies to safeguard people, assets,



operations, and the environmentOversee emergency preparedness activities and ensure terminal teams are trained and prepared to respond effectivelyIdentify opportunities to improve utilization of land-based assets, including staffing, facilities, equipment, and terminal infrastructureSupport capital projects and terminal master planning by providing operational input and ensuring future needs are consideredCross-Functional Collaboration, Staffing, and Customer ExperienceLiaise with corporate departments and functional teams to align operational goals, staffing strategies, performance expectations, and service delivery requirementsWork with People Experience, Recruitment, and Scheduling Services to support strategic staffing practices and ensure operational demands are metSupport hiring, employee development, performance planning, coaching, and accountability for management-level staff as requiredModel and promote excellence in customer service, support resolution of escalated customer concerns, and identify opportunities to improve the customer experienceWhat you bring to the teamEducation/Academic RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Safety Management, Environmental Science, Logistics, or a related fieldAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredWork Experience RequirementsMinimum of 7-10 years of experience in terminal operations, transportation, safety management, environmental compliance, or a related field, including leadership or supervisory experienceCompetency RequirementsStrong knowledge of terminal operations, Safety Management Systems, Dangerous Goods requirements, emergency response, regulatory compliance, and safety, security, and environmental standardsDemonstrated experience in strategic planning, operational performance management, staffing support,



policy administration, audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiativesStrong leadership, decision-making, communication, organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and stakeholder management skills in a complex, fast-paced operational environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office applications and relevant safety, operational, or reporting systemsAbility to balance strategic priorities with day-to-day operational needs while assessing safety trends, performance data, risk indicators, and operational improvement opportunitiesCollaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across departments, regulatory partners, and terminal teams, while supporting consistent, high-quality customer service deliveryProactive approach to risk management, compliance, accountability, coaching, and continuous improvementJoin us!Additional informationThe target salary range: $125,400-$156,800 per annum.
