Assistant Director of Transportation Services – 1.0 FTE - Probationary

Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largest public charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campusesthroughout the city. We offer educational programming through a distinctive FFCATeaching and Learning Framework that has been refined and developed within theAlberta context for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to provide asafe and caring environment where the four pillars of our charter, namely academicexcellence, character development, parental involvement and staff leadership, arevalued and fostered.Position Summary:An Assistant Director of Transportation is required for a full-time continuing positionbeginning immediately.Reporting to the Director of Transportation Services, the Assistant Director of Transportation supports the safe, timely, and cost-effective operation of studenttransportation for all FFCA campuses. This role provides operational and administrativesupport related to route management, contractor coordination, and stakeholdercommunication. The Assistant Director of Transportation ensures students aretransported safely and efficiently and supports the Director in delivering high-qualitytransportation services across the division.
Responsibilities
1. Bus RoutesIn collaboration with the Director of Transportation Services, the AssistantDirector of Transportation is responsible for:
a. Scheduling and adjusting bus routes using transportation logisticssoftware to ensure safe, efficient routing.
b. Monitoring daily route performance and identifying modificationsneeded to address operational concerns, demographic changes,efficiency,
or safety—implementing adjustments with Directorapproval.
c. Annual route creation and providing input.
2. Bus Contractor Coordination
a. Working with the bus contractor to support driver orientation, training, and operational readiness for all FFCA routes.
b. Meeting periodically with the carrier liaison to review routing details, stop locations, student conduct, and campus-specific considerations.
c. Coordinating annual bus evacuation procedures in partnership with the carrier.
d. Organizing fall start-up driver meetings and ensuring drivers receive all required materials.
3. Parent Handbook
a. Develop, maintain, and distribute of the FFCA Transportation ParentHandbook.
b. Reviewing handbook policies and expectations with the carrier, staff, andthe broader FFCA community as needed.
c. Preparing and submitting incident/accident reports involving students,drivers, or buses.
d. Building and maintaining positive working relationships with the buscontractor, local municipalities, other school jurisdictions, and relevantregulatory bodies.
e. Promoting student transportation safety and awareness across all FFCAcampuses.
f. Coordinating transportation communications at the direction of theDirector, including:
School closures
Start-of-year messaging for families
g.
Supporting efficient rollout of registration and fee updates for FFCAfamilies.
4. Administrative & Operational Support
a. Utilizing and maintaining all transportation software platforms (routing, GPS, registration/fee systems) to ensure accurate and current information.
b. Assisting Central Office staff and the Director of Transportation with:
Bus contractor payments
Webpage updates for routes
Transportation fee assessments
PPT payment submissions
Contract management and procurement support
Board policy and administrative procedure updates
Boundary adjustments, grade reconfigurations, or campus changesaffecting routes
c. Carrying out additional duties as required to support transportationoperations.
Physical Requirements
Physical Requirements: noneRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Attributes:
High School Diploma
2-4 years of experience in a related field
Proficient in Microsoft / Office 365 / SharePoint Applications
Robust interpersonal skills
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
Professional work ethic, maintains confidentiality
Strong organizational skills
Takes initiative and works independently
Knowledge of City of Calgary and interpreting city maps
Flexible
Desired Experience and/or Training
Post-secondary diploma or degree
Familiarity with Athena, Powerschool, Rycor, School Messenger, Transportation logistics software and GPS routing platforms is an asset
Salary Range: $73,278 - $91,520.
