Duties
The employee shall be responsible for conducting advanced inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and mechanical equipment in support of CAF operations. The position applies technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems to restore equipment to serviceable condition and ensure reliability. Duties include identifying faults, executing complex repairs, performing system tests, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with technical standards and safety regulations. The member maintains accurate documentation within maintenance systems, supports parts identification and requisition processes, and contributes to overall equipment tracking and readiness. The role may also involve providing guidance to junior personnel and supporting task coordination within the section to sustain maintenance output and operational effectiveness.

Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo, Canada’s premier training base, empowering the Canadian Army through agile, adaptive, and responsive support, while investing in community and family growth. Located in southwestern Manitoba, 35 kilometres east of Brandon, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo has been the site of military activity in the region since 1910. The training area of CFB Shilo covers almost 40,000 hectares, capable of supporting training for large-scale major combat operations and both direct and indirect fires. It encompasses open sand dunes, aspen parkland and prairie vegetation with rolling terrain as well as flat open areas of mixed-grass prairie. It is the largest remaining area of native mixed grass prairie in Manitoba and one of the largest in Canada. Together, DND and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) form the largest and most complex organization in Canada. Intent of the process
This is an inventory process, and candidates will be assessed continuously during this period. Please note that candidates will only be assessed once,



and re-applications to the inventory will not be considered. The intent of this process is to fill one (1) position on an indeterminate (permanent) basis. The first round of applications will be pulled on September 23, 2026. A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process, and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION (only ONE of the following is required!)

OC1. Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Heavy Equipment Repair Certificate, or military equivalent;
OC2. Possession of a valid provincial OR inter-provincial Truck and Transport Repair Certificate, or military equivalent;
OC3. Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson’s Certificate as an Automotive Service Technician, or military equivalent;
OC4. Possession of a valid inter-provincial Red Seal as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, or military equivalent;
OC5. Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson’s Certificate in Heavy Duty Mechanics, or military equivalent.

EXPERIENCE

EX1. Experience in the inspection and repair of gasoline or diesel engines or equipment.
EX2.



Experience diagnosing complex faults and determining efficient repair solutions.
EX3. Experience in the use of a computer.

EXPERIENCE (ASSET)

AE1. Experience in the inspection and repair of a variety of Heavy Duty equipment.
AE2. Experience in the repair and maintenance of military pattern vehicles.
AE3. Experience in the inspection and repair of small engines such as generators, heaters or air compressors.
AE4. Experience in the inspection and repair of ancillary equipment such as pumps, snowblowers or lawn mowers.
AE5. Experience in the inspection and repair of gasoline or diesel-powered automobiles.
