Description

Reporting to the Director, Cabinet Secretariat, the Cabinet Advisor delivers objective analysis and strategic guidance on Requests for Decision (RFDs) regarding territorial priorities, policies, legislative proposals, and government-wide initiatives. The incumbent conducts independent central agency evaluations of ministerial submissions, testing proposals against statutory authorities, business plans, financial parameters, and government mandates to support informed executive decision-making.

Responsibilities

- Review and analyze departmental submissions, policy proposals, and draft legislation to verify accuracy, evaluate viable options, and assess alignment with territorial priorities and governing authorities.

- Prepare objective, confidential advice for executive council and formulate actionable recommendations for cabinet review.

- Provide expert advisory support to interdepartmental deputy ministers’ committees and cabinet sub-committees on complex policy issues, corporate history, and strategic initiatives.

- Facilitate cabinet operations by managing official ministerial records, drafting decision records, and safeguarding the security and integrity of the cabinet record.

- Communicate cabinet directives, context, and decisions to deputy ministers, senior executives, and policy directors across government departments.





- Monitor ongoing departmental initiatives, legislation, and public communications to ensure compliance with executive council direction and conventions.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through:

- A recognized undergraduate degree in public policy, social sciences, public administration, law, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience developing and analyzing public policy, programs, and systems in a large organizational setting or government setting.
- This is a Position of Trust, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural setting are also considered assets.
