Job Title: CNC Laser Programmer Job Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for creating, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programmes for industrial laser cutting machinery to fabricate precision metal parts using engineering drawings, CAD files and work orders.

This role involves converting CAD designs into efficient machine routings, optimizing sheet metal nests to minimize material scrap, downtime, and collaborating with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure seamless manufacturing execution. Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming &

- Setup: Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances and work orders

Create or edit CNC laser programs using the appropriate controller or CAD/CAM software

Develop efficient sheet metal nesting layouts to maximize material utilization, improve material yield and minimize scrap variance.

Convert CAD files into efficient cutting paths and machine-ready programs Process &

- Routing Support: Interpret engineering blueprints, flat patterns, and bill of materials (BOMs) Troubleshoot program errors, edge quality issues, or machine code glitches on the shop floor.

Establish standard cycle times and routing cut speeds to support accurate job costing and scheduling.

Shop Floor

Collaboration &

- Teamwork: Work directly with laser operators to validate first-article cut quality and optimize feed rates

Revise existing programs based on operator feedback or design change notices (ECNs) Maintain and organize a clean,

standardized digital library of laser files and revision-controlled nest routines.

Strong problem-solving, across-departmental communication to deliver support and urgency to the shop floor.

Continuous

Improvement &

- Quality: Identify opportunities to reduce cut times and lower material costs

Ensure part tolerances meet customer specifications and Critical Environments quality standards Qualification &

- Skills

Experience: 2–5+ years of experience in CNC sheet metal programming/nesting within a custom and high-volume manufacturing setting with increasing hybrid design variations and adaptive models Software Proficiency: CAD/CAM software (SigmaNEST, TruTops, BySoft, Lantek, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD). Familiarity with ERP/MRP manufacturing systems (e.g., SAP, IFS, etc) is a outstanding asset Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of sheet metal properties, bend allowances, kerf compensation, and thermal distortion. Proficiency in reading geometric dimensioning & tolerancing

Familiarity with major laser machine brands (TRUMPF, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak, Salvagnini, Cincinnati or comparable machines) will be considered a great asset Physical Requirements &

Working Conditions: Ability to lift up to 30–50 lbs periodically when inspecting cut parts or material stock

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required when on the manufacturing floor (safety glasses, steel-toe boots, ear protection).
