RECORDSSHIFT MANAGER
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024,SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and commandfor policing and law enforcement in Surrey. SPS is working to redefine policingwith innovative new approaches and community-based solutions.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Records Shift Manager tojoin our Information Services Unit , within the Corporate Services Bureau . Reporting to the Information Services Manager, this position plays a key leadership role in theeffective delivery of police records and information services in a dynamic,operational environment.
The Records Shift Manager is responsible for therecruitment, onboarding, training, and day-to-day supervision of records staff,ensuring service levels, performance expectations, and operational prioritiesare consistently met. This role oversees records operations and ensures all SPSfile management, records handling, and information governance practices complywith applicable legislation, policies, standards, and best practices.
Thesuccessful candidate will promote accountability, accuracy, and continuousimprovement while supporting organizational objectives and maintaining publictrust in SPS information management practices.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 37.5 hours per week. This role r equires shiftwork in a 24/7 operation, including holidays and weekends. Pleasenote, the hours are subject to change based on operational requirements.
- Collect and prepare investigativedocumentation for external partners.
- Oversee police file processing, retention,and disposition in accordance with applicable federal legislation, regulations,policies, and guidelines.
- Develop and implement strategies to supportservice standards, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Collect and prepare statistical informationfor weekly and monthly reporting.
- Build and maintain positive workingrelationships with internal and external stakeholders and provide informationand documentation to external partners.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate policiesand protocols for the work.
- Provide input into the annual operatingbudget.
- Support the unit’s priorities and contributeto the achievement of SPS’s strategic objectives and long-term vision.
- Manage records staff in a unionizedenvironment, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, mentoring, training,performance management, discipline, scheduling, and delegation of work to meet Surrey Police Service (SPS) and employee needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledgeof records management practices, police information systems, and applicablelegislation, policies, and procedures.
- Excellentinterpersonal, communication, and service skills.
- Strongcritical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strongorganizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Ability tolead, coach, mentor, and develop employees in a unionized environment.

- Ability toexercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handlingsensitive and confidential information.
- Ability toidentify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations thatsupport effective records management practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in a related field, such as records management,business administration, information management, technology, or a relateddiscipline.
- Minimum of three years of related supervisory ormanagement experience, preferably in a policing or public safety environment.
- Progressivetraining and development in records or file management and people leadership.
- All applicants must obtain andmaintain the required police clearance throughout their employment with SPS. This role also requires RCMP Reliability Status (security clearance).

- This is a union exempt position.
- The salary range is $90,689 to $106,693* annually (pay grade M1) based on 2024rates.
