Remote, Canada — must be able to travel for conferences and campus visits
About TUIO
TUIO is a Canadian payments and administration platform built for independent schools and childcare organizations. We handle tuition billing, payment collection, payment plans, and the administrative work that surrounds them. Hundreds of schools and childcare organizations use us today, and we process over $500M in tuition and fees annually.
This is our first dedicated relationship-led hire for the independent school market.
About the Role
This is a relationship-first business development role. We are not looking for someone to work a cold list. We are looking for someone who is already known and trusted inside the Canadian independent school community, and who can turn that standing into introductions, meetings, and signed schools.
Independent schools buy on reference. Heads of School and Business Managers talk to each other constantly, sit on the same association committees, and attend the same handful of conferences every year. One credible introduction is worth a hundred cold emails. That is the motion we want you to run.
This is a sourcing role. You open the door, build the relationship, and bring us qualified opportunities. Our sales team runs the demo, pricing, and close — you stay in the relationship throughout, but you are not carrying the close on your own.
Who You’ll Be Selling To
Our buyer is usually one of:
- Head of School / Principal (independent K–12)
- Business Manager, Director of Finance, or CFO
- Registrar or Director of Admissions
- Board treasurer or finance committee member, on larger deals
Note: we sell to private and independent institutions. We are not currently pursuing public school boards, districts, or public procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Use existing relationships in the independent school sector to generate warm introductions to Heads of School, Business Managers, and finance decision-makers.
- Represent TUIO at independent school association events and conferences — CAIS, CIS Ontario, ISABC, AISCA, FISA BC, Fédération des établissements d’enseignement privés du Québec, NBOA, and AISAP.
- Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of established independent schools with meaningful enrollment.
- Work your network and your network’s network. The contacts of your contacts are as valuable as your own — every conversation should end with a name.
- Understand each prospect’s current setup before the first meeting — student information system, accounting software, existing payment provider, and contract renewal date.
- Work the enrollment calendar. Most schools decide on billing systems between November and February for the following September, and need implementation complete before their billing cycle opens.
- Hand qualified opportunities to the sales team and stay in the relationship through close and onboarding.
- Cultivate reference relationships — existing clients willing to take a call from a prospective school are our strongest sales asset.
- Keep contacts, conversations, and next steps current in HubSpot.
- Feed back what you hear from the market: pricing objections, competitor movement, feature gaps.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- An active network of decision-makers at independent, private, and faith-based K–12 schools in Canada — people who will actually take your call.
- Demonstrated ability to convert relationships into first meetings and referrals, with specific examples you can walk us through.
- Credibility in this community. Heads of School are a small, connected group. They can tell within one conversation whether you genuinely know their world.
- Comfort with a 6–12 month sales cycle tied to the enrollment calendar rather than to your quarter.
- Willingness to travel to conferences and campus visits as needed.
- Disciplined follow-up. Most of this role is the second, third, and fourth touch and beyond.
Helpful
- Prior experience selling into schools — SIS,
LMS, admissions software, insurance, fundraising, uniforms, food service, or payments.
- Having worked inside an independent school as a business manager, registrar, admissions director, or administrator.
- Working French, for the Quebec market.
- A practical understanding of how tuition billing, payment plans, and school accounting work.
What Success Looks Like
Because you are sourcing rather than closing, early success is measured on the things you control:
- Meaningful relationships built within the independent school community
- Qualified introductions and discovery meetings with decision-makers
- An active, visible presence in provincial and national association communities
- Existing clients cultivated into references who will speak with prospects
- Over time, signed schools and the annual processing volume they represent
We’ll agree specific targets together in your first few weeks, once you’ve had a chance to assess your own network, and revisit them at 90 days.
What We Provide
- Hundreds of existing clients, including references willing to speak with prospects
- Case studies, pricing support, and demo support
- An onboarding and implementation team, so you’re not responsible for delivery
- Conference budget and association membership costs covered
- Direct access to the CEO — we’re a small company and decisions move quickly
Why Join Us
Independent schools run their billing on a patchwork of spreadsheets, e-transfers, post-dated cheques, and general-purpose accounting tools that were never built for tuition. We built something that was. It works, schools stay with us, and now we want to grow faster than referrals alone can carry us.
If you already know the people, know how to get introduced to the people, and would enjoy being the person who brings TUIO to a sector that needs it, we’d like to meet you.
How to Apply
Include in your application send us a short note describing three relationships in the independent school sector you would draw on in your first month, and what you would do with them. We care about that more than a résumé.
