Dualita Architecture is a growing Edmonton-based architecture firm working primarily on multi-family, mixed-use, and commercial projects
We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Architect to join our leadership team. This is a senior, hands-on role for an architect who is comfortable taking ownership of projects, making technical decisions, and guiding both projects and people with a high degree of independence.
We’re looking for someone who has already spent significant time delivering projects in Canada and understands what it takes to move a project successfully from schematic design through construction.
The Role
As a Senior Project Architect, you will take primary responsibility for the architectural delivery of assigned projects and act as a senior technical resource for our team.
You will work closely with our Principal Architect while having significant autonomy over your own projects. You should be comfortable reviewing a project, identifying what needs to happen next, making informed decisions, coordinating the consultant team, and moving the work forward without requiring extensive direction.
This role also carries an significant mentorship component. Our designers and junior staff need someone they can approach with technical questions, drawing reviews, code questions, detailing challenges, and construction-related issues.
We are looking for someone with the judgment and experience to provide those answers.
What You’ll Do
- Independently lead architectural projects from schematic design through design development, construction documentation, permitting, tender, and construction.
- Take ownership of project delivery, including scope, schedule, coordination, documentation, and technical quality.
- Translate schematic designs into coordinated, technically sound, and constructible drawing packages.
- Apply the Canadian building code and applicable provincial and municipal requirements throughout project development.
- Review architectural drawings and specifications for technical accuracy, coordination, completeness, constructability, and consistency.
- Lead coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and other consultants.
- Identify technical and coordination issues early and provide practical solutions.
- Respond to contractor questions, RFIs, shop drawings, site conditions,
and other construction-phase issues.
- Participate in client, consultant, contractor, and authority meetings as a senior representative of the firm.
- Provide technical guidance and drawing reviews for designers and junior staff.
- Mentor developing team members and help strengthen their understanding of construction documentation, detailing, building code, and project delivery.
- Work closely with the Principal Architect on complex technical matters and firm-wide quality control.
Required Experience
This is a senior-level position. Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Minimum 8–10 years of professional architectural experience, with progressively increasing responsibility for project delivery.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience working on projects in Canada.
- Registered Architect in Alberta, or eligible for registration with the Alberta Association of Architects.
- Demonstrated experience independently leading projects from schematic design through construction.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Building Code and experience applying building code requirements to real projects.
- Significant experience preparing and reviewing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
- Construction administration experience, including RFIs, shop drawings, site reviews, change documentation, and resolving construction issues.
- Strong understanding of building assemblies, detailing, constructability, and coordination.
- Experience reviewing the work of others and identifying errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and coordination issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A consistently high level of attention to detail.
You’ll Be a Great Fit If
You are comfortable being the person others come to when they have a difficult technical question.
You can be handed a project, understand where it stands, determine what needs to happen next, and take responsibility for moving it forward.
You know when you can make a decision independently and when something needs to be escalated.
You enjoy mentoring junior staff and helping designers understand not only what needs to change, but why.
You care about the quality and completeness of a drawing set and naturally notice when something doesn’t coordinate or make sense.
You have enough experience to operate with a high degree of independence, but you still enjoy being part of a collaborative team.
What We Offer
At Dualita, seniority comes with trust and autonomy.
We want experienced people to have room to do their jobs without unnecessary layers of management. You’ll have ownership of your projects while still having the support of the Principal Architect and the broader team when you need it.
We offer:
- A high degree of autonomy and ownership over your work.
- Direct involvement in meaningful projects from design through construction.
- A supportive, collaborative environment where questions and ideas are welcomed.
