This is not a general fleet administration position. We are looking for someone who understands mobile cranes technically and mechanically and can make informed decisions regarding equipment condition, repair priorities, troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and return to service.
Significant mobile crane maintenance and repair experience is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the day-to-day maintenance and reliability requirements of Modern Crane's mobile crane and heavy-equipment operation.
* Establish repair priorities based on safety, equipment condition, operational requirements, customer commitments, and equipment availability.
* Coordinate preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, inspections, breakdown repairs, and emergency repairs.
* Review operator and technician equipment write-ups and ensure deficiencies are properly investigated, repaired, documented, and closed.
* Monitor equipment downtime and actively drive repairs through to completion.
* Coordinate technicians, apprentices, OEM representatives, outside vendors, dealers, and specialized repair facilities.
* Provide technical direction during complex crane troubleshooting and major repairs.
* Maintain clear communication with Operations and senior management regarding equipment condition, repair progress, outstanding deficiencies, and anticipated availability.
* Coordinate annual inspections, structural inspections, certifications, and required corrective repairs.
* Ensure maintenance and repairs are completed in accordance with OEM requirements, company standards, and applicable safety requirements.
* Maintain accurate work orders, inspection records, repair histories, certification documentation, and maintenance records.
* Coordinate parts requirements and ensure critical components and commonly required service items are appropriately managed.
* Identify recurring equipment failures and develop corrective and preventative solutions.
* Review repair quality and ensure equipment is properly tested and verified before being returned to service.
* Assist with troubleshooting hydraulic, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and crane-control-system issues.
* Coordinate major component repairs, rebuilds, and replacements.
* Work directly with crane manufacturers and technical-support representatives when required.
* Help recruit, train, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel.
* Establish expectations for workmanship, productivity, organization, housekeeping, and accountability within the maintenance operation.
* Monitor preventative maintenance compliance and ensure inspections and scheduled maintenance are completed on time.
* Analyze equipment history and recurring failures to improve long-term fleet reliability.
* Provide management with recommendations regarding major repairs, equipment condition, lifecycle planning, and repair-versus-replace decisions.
* Maintain a professional, organized, productive, and safe maintenance environment.
* Perform other maintenance and equipment-reliability duties as required.
Required Experience and Qualifications
*Significant hands-on experience maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, or overseeing the repair of mobile cranes.
* Strong technical knowledge of mobile crane systems and operating principles.
* Strong understanding of heavy hydraulic systems.
* Strong understanding of electrical and electronic control systems.
* Experience with boom, telescoping, outrigger, stabilization, and crane safety systems.
* Familiarity with LMI / RCI systems, electronic controls, diagnostic systems, and CAN-bus networks.
* Strong knowledge of diesel-powered heavy equipment.
* Ability to read and understand hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, technical manuals, OEM service information, and technical bulletins.
* Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex equipment problems and develop effective repair strategies.
* Experience coordinating multiple repairs, technicians, vendors, and competing operational priorities.
* Experience working directly with crane manufacturers, dealers, and specialized repair facilities.
* Previous experience in crane maintenance leadership, service management, shop supervision, lead technician, maintenance supervision, or a similar senior heavy-equipment role.
* Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
* Ability to prioritize effectively and manage equipment downtime.
* Strong computer skills and experience with work-order, maintenance, parts, or diagnostic systems.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Demonstrated leadership, accountability, and follow-through.
* Strong commitment to safety, preventative maintenance, equipment reliability, and quality workmanship.
*A valid Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician Certificate is considered an asset but is not mandatory for candidates with substantial mobile crane technical and maintenance experience.**
Mobile Crane Experience Is Mandatory

We want someone who can walk into the shop, understand what is wrong with a crane, ask the right technical questions, challenge a diagnosis when necessary, establish a repair plan, coordinate the required resources, and ensure the equipment is properly repaired and safely returned to service.
The successful candidate will understand the importance of balancing:
* Safety
* Equipment reliability
* Preventative maintenance
* Repair quality
* Operational requirements
* Downtime
* Cost
* Long-term equipment condition

If you have extensive mobile crane maintenance experience and are ready to take on a senior leadership role focused on keeping a demanding crane operation safe, reliable, and productive, we want to hear from you.
