Job Summary

Inter-Rail Transport Ltd. is seeking an experienced Welder / Fabricator to join our Edmonton fleet maintenance team. This position is responsible for the repair, modification, and fabrication of components for commercial trucks, trailers, and specialized heavy-haul equipment.

The successful candidate will have strong welding and fabrication skills, with the ability to work from drawings, measurements, existing components, sketches, or verbal direction. This position requires someone who can follow direction effectively while also working independently, solving problems, and taking ownership of assigned repairs and fabrication projects from start to finish.

Our shop is fleet-based, with preventative maintenance, repairs, modifications, and custom fabrication completed primarily in-house.

Responsibilities

- Perform welding, fabrication, modification, and structural repairs on commercial trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Diagnose and repair cracks, crossmembers, reinforcement plates, brackets, and other damaged or worn components.
- Fabricate custom parts, brackets, equipment mounts, toolboxes, supports, and other components from raw material.
- Measure, lay out, cut, fit, assemble, and weld components accurately.
- Work from blueprints, sketches, measurements, existing components, or verbal instructions.
- Perform MIG and Stick welding on mild steel and stainless steel.
- Complete aluminum welding and fabrication where required.
- Operate plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, saws, grinders, lancing rods, air arc equipment, and other fabrication tools.
- Modify existing trucks, trailers, and equipment to meet operational requirements.
- Analyze repair and fabrication requirements and develop practical solutions.
- Inspect completed work for proper fit, finish,



structural integrity, and safety.
- Follow direction from the Shop Foreman and Service Manager while being capable of completing assigned work independently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and protected work area.
- Assist other members of the maintenance team as required.

Qualifications

- Minimum 2–3 years of professional welding and fabrication experience.
- Commercial truck and trailer repair experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong custom fabrication skills with the ability to build components from scratch.
- Proficient in MIG and Stick welding.
- Aluminum welding experience is considered a strong asset.
- Strong measuring, layout, cutting, fitting, and assembly skills.
- Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to take direction and work effectively as part of a team.
- Capable of working independently with limited supervision.
- Punctual, dependable, motivated, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Basic computer and tablet skills.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spaces or physically demanding positions when required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Must have their own inventory of standard hand tools.

Education & Certifications

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.




- Journeyman Welder certification, formal welding training, CWB certification, or equivalent qualifications are considered assets.
- Relevant industry experience and demonstrated fabrication ability will also be strongly considered.

Work Environment

Due to available shop space and the size of some of our equipment, the successful candidate must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors. Some work will be completed outside throughout the year, with indoor shop space available depending on the project and operational requirements.

Inter-Rail Transport Ltd. is looking for a dependable and skilled Welder / Fabricator who takes pride in producing quality work, can follow direction, and can be trusted to independently carry a repair or fabrication project through to completion.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $35.00-$45.00 per hour
