Summary
The Shelter Counsellor will focus on providing gender base violence crisis counselling, walk-in counselling, act as an advocate and providing general information and referral services on addictions, health, housing, employment, education and other such services, to those persons experiencing domestic abuse and/or family violence. They must demonstrate a strong professional manner in dealing with stakeholders such as RCMP, CFS agencies, other relevant agencies, and the public, while being open, friendly, approachable, compassionate, accepting and understanding.
Qualifications:
· Minimum Grade 12, Applied Counselling Certificate (may consider relevant education and/or experience)
· Exceptional organizational skills, decision making and problem solving skills
· Excellent written communication and documentation skills to maintain reports and client files along with documentation that may be required by law enforcement and child welfare agencies
· Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information
· Must be reliable, able to work alone or a team environment
· Must have excellent physical and emotional health
· Must be flexible to work various shifts to accommodate 24/7 facility
· Satisfactory Criminal Record, Child Abuse & Adult Abuse Registry Checks
· Experience working in the Domestic/Family Violence field as asset
· Emergency First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training an asset
· Must have valid Driver’s License and access to own vehicle
· Wage and Benefits in accordance with MGEU Collective agreement
Pay: $21.94-$27.82 per hour
