DEPARTMENT: WOMEN & CHILD CARE UNIT POSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND UNION AFFILIATION: OPSEU - SERVICE STATUS: FULL-TIMEREASON TO POST: DIRECT REPLACEMENT WAGE RATE: $37.071 - $38.157 Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively as a member of the inter-disciplinary team to provide care to those patients with a stable and predictable outcome within the defined professional scope of practice for Registered Practical Nurse as set out by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
QUALIFICATIONS Required: Ontario College of Nurses registration
Maternal/Newborn Assessment course or equivalent recent related experience
Physical Assessment course or equivalent
Competency in IV therapy, surgical aseptic technique, urinary catheterization, medication administration, enteral feeding, POCT, wound care, drain care, monitoring patient receiving blood and blood products and PCA certified
Competency in assessing and facilitating the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding in support of the WHO baby friendly initiative (comfortable with the 10 steps to successful breastfeeding)
Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider certification (NRP)
Current BCLS
Breastfeeding Certificate
Successful completion of the regional paediatric orientation program
Recent experience in caring for mother/baby dyads
Excellent organizational and patient assessment skills
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other multi-disciplinary team members
Excellent problem solving, decision‑making and interpersonal skills
Commitment to continuing education and professional development
Participation in staff meetings and unit specific projects
Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred Prevention of Shaken baby Syndrome education
Paediatric assessment and willingness to provide care to stable paediatric patients
