Vancouver Shipyards, located in North Vancouver, is proud to be at the forefront of some of the most significant shipbuilding projects in Canadian history. We’re making steady progress on two 174-metre-long Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy — the largest vessels ever constructed in Canada. At the same time, we're advancing work on the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV) for the Canadian Coast Guard. Most recently, we’ve begun construction of Canada’s first heavy Polar Icebreaker in over 50 years — a historic milestone for our nation’s Arctic capabilities.
Following that we have several Multi-Purpose Vessels that are currently designing for construction in years to come. These projects bring long-term job stability on some of the most exciting and significant shipbuilding opportunities in the world.

Education & Experience
Millwright, Mechanic,
or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certificate of Qualification with Interprovincial Red Seal Endorsement; or a Recognized Equivalent Provincial Trades Qualification; or a Recognized Equivalent International Trade Qualification
Minimum of 30 Months Documented Mechanical Experience
Required Skills & Qualifications
Shipbuilding experience in a new construction shipyard preferred
Comprehend and follow written and spoken directions and work in a safe & efficient manner
Positive communication skills both written and verbal in the English language
Ability to work in a team environment or individually with a positive attitude
Demonstrated proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
Demonstrates proficiency with alignment, rigging, layout and a variety of hand tooling
Must be able to work in a construction environment involving confined spaces, working at heights, physical labour, and various weather conditions
Must be able to be qualified to wear a respirator
This is a Union role with International Association of Machinist - Lodge 550 (IAM 250) and union membership will be required upon hire.
